Ok I just got my maxamps package today which is the Hyperion charger + 3s 5000mah Lipo battery. I set the charger to the correct settings (Lipo C=5000mAh 3s) and charged it which only took 44 minutes. Took my Pede VXL outside to run it and it had a lot of power but didn't seem quite as fast as I thought it would be and after a few minutes the power seemed to drop down, and after like 5 minutes the red light was blinking on my ESC. Now its only like 15 degress Farenheit outside right now here in NY. My fingers were literally in pain when I came back in, from being so cold. But would it cause the battery to die that fast??

There wasn't a procedure I had to do before charging the battery the first time other than putting the correct settings to charge on the hyperion, was there? After running it to the point where the low voltage detection comes on do i just recharge it? Am I supposed to be doing any dischargingor anything?

PS - I hooked it back up to the charger after this and it started beeping (recharged) in 20 minutes. Hmm...??

Try keeping the battery nice and warm up until the moment you use it. They lose voltage as their temperature drops.

Well I charged indoors so it was room temperature when I started using it. I knew that the cold affected the batteries, but i certainly didn't think it would make a freshly charged 5000 mAh Lipo only last a few minutes! This batery should be good for at least 20-25 minutes, so I would have thought in the cold 15-20 minutes minimum. But I'm no expert. Hopefully Maxamps support will respond...

you mentioned you charged it at room temperature.

I used it like 5-10 minutes after I charged it. I ran it again today when it was a little warmer out. Probably around 35-40 degrees and it did last a bit longer but still not very long. I'd say it was full power for like 7-8 minutes and than there was that noticeable drop in power again for the next 2-3 minutes before I clipped my fence and broke a front caster arm and stopped running it obviously. I drove to my LHS and fixed the truck and will run it again tomorrow to see what happens.

For the record I disconnected the battery as soon as the charger started beeping. Should I have let it go for another 20-30 minutes aftet the beeping??

Guys all Li-po's loose capacity in cloder temps the colder the worse the loss is. When they warm up they go back to normal.
