I've managed to get pretty good with a heli in G3.5; inverted hovers, all attitudes and so on... I know its far from "the real thing", but I think I'm ready for my first heli. (again) (I had a .30 size years ago, long before inverted flight was the norm.) I travel often, mostly flying commercial airlines, which puts rc planes out of reach. I'm thinking that a T-rex 450SE v2 would be a good time-burner while on "the road". I'd take spare parts, lipos, charger, balancer, tools... all in a nice aluminum case. I never check bags on domestic flights, and I would not want to start now... So my question is... Can you get through TSA security with lipo's, charger, radio, a heli and tools??

Dashunde, I think most would be okay, except the lipo battery (fire hazard). You may want to call the security department at the Airport and double check. no way is that going to happen. you might get away with some stuff but if you think for one second that the TSA is going to let you board a plane with tools in a bag that you aren't going to check you are in for a rude awakening at the airport (possibly a bit of intrusive searching too, you know the kind with the white latex glove). I'd be surprised if they would even let you board with the heli in your carry-on, alot of it would be up to the agent but think about it in terms of security. I could definitely use a radix cf 325 blade to cut someone, ive cut myself on them before. Probably could stab you with a spare tail boom. Definitely could poke your eye out with a flybar. You definitely need to look into this further, I'm surprised nobody else has chimed in. But, like I said, there is absolutely no way you are going to board a plane with a bag of tools that you don't want to check. I had a pair of needle nose pliers in my bag, went through the checkpoint and got pulled aside. They went through everything after that and even pulled my bag (that I had checked) to go through it as well. Apparently, pliers are a common tool used in the construction of incindiary devices. Ended up missing my flight and going on without my pliers....

Gotta agree, you won't be flying with your heli as carry on. Even the radio is going to be tough because it could theoretically be used to set off a bomb. You're definitely going to have to check it in and even then make sure that you're careful, for instance you're only going to be allowed 2 batteries (from what I understand). I suggest you don't even try, you'll definitely not be allowed and you might even lose the heli.

Yah I'm sure you could get it in checked, but knowing the airlines track record for lost/damaged baggage you would have to have a screw loose to try.
