It's been a while for this thread.  How is everyone liking the Extra ?  I've been having problems with the wheel pants and the axles.  The right wheel continually tightens when I tighten up the wheel pantthe wheel spinned freely prior to tightening the wheel pant.  Figured out the nut-like spacer on the axle was moving causing the wheel to lock up.  Found this out after the wheel pant fell off on landing and wound up in my prop.  I may get another set and physically bolt the wheel pants to the gear or something.  Looks much better with them on.  Other than that, I've been wringing the sucker out!

I gave my wheel pants away . They never last on any plane I own and they feel funny to me in the air now , like a major downward drag
I am not used to and Ive been trying to use them lately on other planes . Best 20 flight before they fall of in the air or flip over and drag like skis .
I like mine ! I just got another servo in the tail and my CG is back behind the spar now so I need to get it out for the weekend and see how much better that helps . I just ordered a Red,white ,blue and black one also as the boat arrives next week with more ! Im kinda stoked cause this season I have a lot of nice planes and even a backup Extra ! What could be better ?!!!

Is that an .82 mounted on the side ? Man Im going to have to give that a try . How far does the head stick out ?

 Mike

Yep, it's side mounted.  The head sticks out no more than a couple millimeters.  That's just a guess right now, but it certainly doesn't stick out much at all.

The .82 does good .  Got my Red scheme in and that scheme just pops! Going to have to order an entirely new setup now though ,
Almost thinking of going E power .

Hello new to the forum and I was going to sell my Funtana x50 and use my spair satio 1.00 on this bird and was wondering if it would fit just fine and if the plane has clearence for a 15" prop. The engine is only 2oz heaviery than the .82 and I'd be using a 2600 fromec (don't know if I spelt that right)  lipo for the reciver which should keep the weight down. Also how much modding is needed to fit standard size servos in this because I have 5 ds821 laying around and it's such a waste to not just use them, and they again are about the same weight as the 5245. I flew my friends 78" extra 300 aeroworks and just needed a extra after how well that thing flew! Plus I need a plane that will float because my 11lb aeroworks yak 54 1.20 is a bit heavy.

Later

Nice shots. Sure the price is a tad more, but you really get what you pay for with this plane. Its by far the best nitro flyer Ive ever had

What's your AUW? I might strap my Hunnert on the nose of that thing if my AW Extra doinks in. I was VERY seriously considering it, but decided to go with the AW plane just because it was newer (I'm a sucker for new things. Both my Tx and plane were bought as me being EARLY in the first shipment).

Trying to decide between this and a Fliton Extra 330 that I can get for $100 NIB. Has anyone flown both? Only thing is these seem to be out of stock until mid fall, which means winter - unless Extreme Flight sells them through someone else other than their site.

Hey KWBOOST! Where did you get the Carbon sheets from? Do you feel the carbon sheets offer enough strength for the firewall/ motor box?

ro 347 - I have flown both and both are nice, however I like my Extreme Flight Extra better. The Fliton Extra tracks well and does 3-D well. I flew it with electric power setup and a 4-cycle setup (OS-91 I believe). It did require some mixing to eliminate some minor coupling, but nothing major. The biggest down sides I found were the LG mounting area is very weak and the covering does not hold up very well as it is very thin and delaminates easily. It's a fragile airframe and I accidently ended up breaking things while I worked on it.

I'm on my second Extreme Flight Extra (1st one crashed hard after a receiver battery failure). The airframe is very light and stiff but it is strong where it needs to be so it holds up to anything you throw at it, including rough landings (version 2 has a stronger LG area). The build and covering quality is excellent, it looks great, and the flight performance is awesome. The only problem I have with it is that it weather vanes a fair amount so it doesn't track as well in windy conditions. There was very minimal roll coupling which was easily mixed out. I was concerned that my YS-63 would vibrate it apart but it's holding up fine; I mounted it on a Hyde soft mount to keep vibrations down.

Steve

ro347,
Sorry for the late response. I buy the carbon fiber from here http://dragonplate.com/default.asp
I use combination of .25 veneer and 1/16 sheet. Kinda of expensive but I use for many projects. A little goes a long way.

I have propably 250 flights or more, and the fire wall and mount is rock solid. The aircraft is holding up well.
Finished weight was 5lb 1 oz.
This was measured on digital tint scale which is very acurate.

I put together and did some editing on me flying this EF extra 300. It is my first time editing video so it is a little rough. and the video was taken with a still camra so it is not so good. I plan on learning more and making better videos in future.
Enjoy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWTqKPMAHAM
