I have finished my Skyshark P-40 with the XYZ-50 engine. I hope to do the maiden next Saturday June 28th. This weekend is taken up with family oblications. I hope to get some video I plan on posting here for you all to see. MY XYZ-50 is spinning a Bambula 20x10 prop at 6900RPM. Here is a pic. I have since installed the decals.

Well I finally got the maiden flight in this weekend. The XYZ-50 ran perfectly. Started easy and had more than enough power for my 21lbs Skyshark P-40. I have some video being processed that I hope to have ready by tomorrow. I will have a link to it setup asap. This is a great running engine for War Birds.

Ron, or anyone that has an opinion , I am building a KMP B-25 arf . How do you think two 26cc engines would perform? The plane should weigh 17-18 lb.

I beleive they might be a little to big.
Compare the 26cc to a 120-140 Nitro Two Stroke.

Jim do you think this XYZ 50 will work in a World Models GS P-51? I have run a moki 2.10 in it with great results and I want to know if this would fit and the power comparison. Let me know your thoughts please. Thanks, Phil

Phil,

I do believe the XYZ-50 would fly the WM GS P-51 quite well. I also think it would weigh a little more than with the Moki 2.10 and have a little less power. The good thing is it would pay for itself in the long run. My P-40 weigh's 21 lbs with 1190 sq in wing aera. Your P-51 woulb be around 18lbs with 1155 sq in wing aera. The XYZ weigh's 3lbs 10oz. What does the Moki 2.10 weigh?

Phil,

I just did a search on the Moki 2.10 you are using and it weigh's 45oz without the muffer. If the muffler even weigh's another 3oz that makes the Moki 2.10 weigh in at an even 3lbs. I bit it is a bit more than that. The XYZ-50 weigh's only 3lbs 10oz compete with muffler and EI. It spin's a Bambula 20x10 prop at 6950 with only 2 gallons of fuel thru it. It well be even better once competely broke-in. I bit your WM GS P-51 world weigh only another 6oz or so over your current weight. Just think of the savings in fuel a lone and you would see the XYZ-50 would more than pay for itself.

My xyz26cc vibrated too much on the test bench, so I have no guts to put it on an airframe to fly. It is now lying in the store collecting dust. Any idea what should I do about it?

If it is still under warranty I would send it back to who ever you purchased it from for a replacement. The XYZ engines fron Southeastengines here in the states would be gladly replace by Ron.

Ron, Did I read somewhere that you are making a different type of muffler for the 50 also ??? Would a wrap behind type work on it, or would it not save any of the width problems ?? Thanks again, John D....

Yes, Pitts Style Mufflers are coming for 26 & 50.
Due in week of 7/28/08.
Proto-type testing went very well, got 300 more rpm
on the 26 after install.

We suggest you send it back to HC and demand a replacement.
However, we were told by one of our customers that it took close
to a year for them to replace it, but they finally did.

Before any engine goes out of our shop, we go through a 14 item
checklist and one of the items on the list is to check for shaft
out of round.
Back in March, we had three from a batch of engines that had this
problem and were fixed before they left the shop. Since that
batch, XYZ changed the design to include a collar that seated the
hub so it could not shift during installation.

I think Id beter send it back for a replacement.

However, I wonder if I should send it to HC or return to the factory directly.

I believe it would take a much longer time to send to HC.

This engine is already 6 months' old since its arrival and with all those bent crankshaft and faulty ignition problem, I have not been able to mount it on an airframe to fly it. Would the factory accept it back and give me a replacement?
