Thank you Larry Garrett and the HOTMAC crew for a MOST ENJOYABLE event today! On Saturday, March 1, 2008, we held what might be the very first Club 40 AND (the operative word here is "AND" Q25 practice race ever held with each going against each other. Others will chime in and paint a more complete picture, but the weather was perfect (80 degrees F, 5-10 MPH breeze, and severe clear skies).

Here's my view from #1 pylon: on a 400' course, the Raiders have the advantage because they get off the ground faster and will turn tighter; the Q25s have the speed advantage (maybe 5 - 8 MPH) in the straights. On the 450 course which is what the Q25 use in Dallas, they would walk away from the Raiders if flying identical grooves for 10 laps.

And we got to see two NATS AMA 428 qualifier Neme-Qs do laps on a 400' course...perhaps others will comment on what it looked like...(wink)

Stay tuned...

I couldn't agree more with what Jim had to say; the food was great and lots of it, a big thanks to Larry Garret and HOTMAC; no shortage of stuff to drink; this is my first year racing Club 40 and I have been practising at my home field at the Temple Aero Modelers with a 400' practise circuit, what a great opportunity to race with 2 and 3 other planes; did well, not as good as the veterans but that's OK, learned a lot today; my last race was the best until the the midair, fortunately Max at the Waco Hobby Stop had a Skyraider in stock, not my colors of all RED, but he had a White and Red one; so I will be ready for ARCA on April 5.
