product to protect paint?
 

Is there a product for RC bodies that you apply after painting that increases durability? I'm not having fun with 1/8 buggy bodies chipping so easily, I get a nice paint job done and it only lasts 5 races and looks like crap, yet the body itself is in super nice condition.

Yes, and it also happened on a body that was painted by a professional.

I usually finish off what ever can of paint has the least in it as a protective coating. Maybe 2 or 3 extra coats over the actual paint job. If you did to your body what you do to your rc bodies during races your paint would chip too.:D

You can apply extra coats and find sealers and such but under racing conditions its just a matter of time. Keep a body for show and have a body for racing. I just painted a TC body that I planned on racing but I was so pleased with the results that I think I'm going to get a different one to race with now.

Rust-O-Leum Crystal Clear Enamel paint!!!
You can purchase this at about any hardware store or your local Wally World.

It works very well to seal the paint job from any nitro spills as well as protect the paint job. If you arent backing the paint with some form of enamel and you are running nitro the fuel can react with the paint and make it discolor or bubble up.

When sprayings the clear make sure to do three light coats as opposed to 1 or 2 heavy coats.

You can also scuff the body with a scotch brite pad before painting. Make sure to clean the body with alcohol after scuffing to remove any residue. This gives the paint a better surface to bond too.

Thats what I do, just like shoot said. If your usen a airbrush, faskoat from faskolor works too. Best bang for the buck is clear coat, I use krylon.

Try some silicone sealant (stuff plumbers might use alone sinks and baths big long tube) I put a dab on a finger and run it in any areas that are known weak spots e.g. down the side and especialy anywhere theres heat e.g. exhaust put a larger dob where the body will come into contact with the exhaust. Ive done this on an RGX painted shell and although it no time to replace Ive raced every weekend for a year with the body! also helps a bit against cracking from heat

Is the person painting the inside or outside? The paint has always been applied on the inside of my bodies and Ive never had a body chip paint and I drive my truck pretty hard. If its on teh outside of the body, then Id suggest finding someone more intelligent.
