hey all , i have a newly aquired nexus 30 and i just tried to fly it but it has a nasty head wobble . The blades are new , it seemed like the shaft was bent . i removed the main shaft and it seemed to be straight ( rolled it on a table ) . I have read some where before that the 4 screw collar can cause this problem . If so then how ? it seems it just centers the shaft . How would you go about centering it ?

first make sure all the set screws on the collar are loose, then make sure that the shaft is through the bottom bearing ,aling the paddles perpendicular to the boom ,aling the mixing arms with the paddles ,put the jesus bolt in and pull up slight to get the gear mesh right and tighen the set scews, the should work

Also make sure your head speed is not too low. Should be around 1600 on the Nex?

Does the swashplate have a lot of play in it by chance? Been quite some time since I had a Nexus. I do however remember (think I did...lol) putting a Concept 30 swash on mine.

You set the run out with the 4 screw in the top collar. It takes time and effort to do correctly. The plastic pitch rod guide can be molded off center as well. When I was flying mine, the plastic pitch rod guide was so bad I put a dial indicator on it and it was 16 thousands out. You need to get it down to 2 thousands or less. I ordered the aluminum one and that solved a lot of problems for me. I am not sure i you could find the aluminum pitch rod guide. It makes it easy to set the run out.

Low speed will not cause the head to wobble. With wobbley head the helicopter will shake itself to pieces before it gets anywhere near 1600 rpm which is usually the rpm required for a hover. Something is off balance and a number of things could be the culprit.

1. IF you are using wood blades, they could be twisted or warped.

2. Check your main blade pitch. Both blades need to be set exactly the same. EXACTLY THE SAME.

2. Make sure the main blades are not too tight in the grips. They should move freely with only slight resistance from the grip

2. The shaft connecting the two blade grips could be bent

3. Flybar paddles- unequall pitchy or the flybar may be bent

4. The bearing in the main gear could be bad

Generally, rolling a shaft on a flat surface is not suffient for checking straightness since only a couple of thousanths total indicatior reading can cause enough vibration to wobble the head. You shoud roll the shaft in a set of V-Blocks with a dial indicator on the shaft. I understand that most folks don't have an indicator and a set of v-blocks, but it really is the most accurate way.

Good luck.

actually low head speed CAN cause a slight wobble, if the blades arent in their lead/lag positions they will be slightly unbalanced until they spool up. Also if your running very stiff dampers too low of a head speed will cause a wobble as well, the way to fix it is get the head speed up, maybe this doesnt apply to the Nexus, but i know it applies to my Raptor.
