I have an old K&B 61. It is the ringed engine with the two piece muffler. The pressure tap holds it together and it is a loose fit. I have tried using high temp RTV to seal the two half's together but can't get rid of the leak.

Any recommendations for a good after market one piece muffler that will fit? I need something the same style as the stock muffler. I don't want to have to change anything but the muffler.

Springs, didn't we do this already, I posted some pics previuosly saying if your muffler is th same as the .61 Twister and the Sportster .65 then there is a moderm alternative. The bolt spacing on these is 1.5 inch.

What happened to my first post about fixing the stock one with pop rivets or screws? (deleted by who or whom?)

FWIW there is also a Bisson universal strap on muffler that works well.

I guessing that the system crashed about mid morning today. Mark brought out the back up tape to get it going. There are a lot of posts missing that were made late last night or this morning.

The moderators did not delete your posts. I'm missing some as well.

I kinda figured something was wrong somewhere after seeing the Admin's notices all over the place...looks like things are fixed now? Didn't really think it was purposely deleted.

blw...that muffler on the left in your pic is the .61's after they stopped making the flow through...later 70's.
I've always preferred the flow through, but it is rather noisy.

Thanks for all the replies. I am a little confused because of the missing posts. Some of mine are gone too.

My muffler looks like the one in the post by blw that is on the engine.

Hobbsy, the mufflers look good. I didn't know the 61 ABC part would fit. It looks like it may be quieter too. A good thing these days.

w8ye, the part numbers and link to MECOA help. I will try the sport muffler for the 61 ABC.

Thanks again all!!!

The one on the left is for an HB61. There's a couple of other models available for this engine too. The Webra 10ccm Blackhead muffler also fits, making three engines with interchangable mufflers!

I have an older OS .61 and need to rep lace the muffler. Problem is, the muffler screws in from the exhaust side. Haven't seen one like that before. Most
screw in from the other side and go throught the engine to the muffler. Any ideas where I could find something that would fit on this engine? Thanks! Jim Elliott

Those mufflers for the HB .61 and the .65 Sportster use a larger dia. bolt, so to make them work you have to enlarge the mounting holes on you engine.
At least I did. Sometime I'm going to get one back on the test stand and try it out with the original muffler and a Sportster muffler, with and without the internal baffle.
I'm kind of curious to see what happens to the power levels, and the noise level.
Anyone already have that info?

The muffler on the left side looks like it fits a HB61. Is it available and do you have the bolts?
Thank you,
Art

if I remember correctly, the earliest .61 engines used a clamp on muffler too.  Those that would fit pop up from time to time here or there for sale.

Using a muffler reduces power by about 500 to 2,500 rpms. it depends on the muffler and how restrictive it is.  A tuned muffler can also not reduce power and also boost power to some extent too.

Now then Mac's Mufflers have a adapter plate so you can use one of their one piece mufflers on the engines too:

Webra .61 Speed (old strap-on)
HP .61 OLD (Strap-On System)
6768
K&B .61
H.B. .61
Jett .60 L
Webra .61 BH (old - bolt through)
(screws 5/40 x 1 1/2" socket head)
(center to center = 38.10mm/1.500")
6778
