First off, I have no troubles at all charging LiPO batteries on this charger, it works great with them.

The troubles I am having seem to revolve around NiMH batteries. I have a set of Orion 4200mAh cells that always charge just fine. I use them in my Traxxas Rustler VXL and when I see a marked decrease in performance, I take them out and charge them. So far that pack has worked great with this charger. Then I have a Venom 3600mAh pack that I also use in the Rustler, and it WILL NOT charge.. ever on this charger. When I hook it up and try to charge it I get no ERR message; the Superbrain just seems to 'reboot'.

I thought maybe I was doing something wrong, so I charged the pack on another charger and tried the procedure again. Ran them in my truck until the marked decrease in performance, then tried to charge again. Same problem.

Now tonite, I tried charging a 7cell NiMH pack from my plane, it is a 7xAAA 600mAh pack, and now I get an ERR P L message. Yet I can charge the pack just fine on it's regular charger.

Any ideas what I could be doing wrong? I have gone over the settings many times, have checked and rechecked cell number, battery type, I have performed online searches all to no avail. Is it possible the SuperBrain is not so 'Brainy'? Is there a way to 'Over-ride' the P L message and force it to charge? A 'Wall-wart' has none of these safeties and seems to charge my packs just fine.

Thanks in advance!

Dave

The "ERR PL" should be the power supply voltage is low. When you first plug on the charger it should display the power supply voltage, it should be around 15 volts. Get that info and let me know what you find.

Hi Tim,

Power supply voltage is 15.85 volts, according to the 989. Most of the time, I do not get the ERR message, it typically just 'clicks', the screen goes blank, then it comes back on PS mode showing 15.85v and goes back to the profile I was using. That's what I was referring to as a reboot. I did further testing last night, and that is what it was doing on two different packs.. just reboot, no ERR

That doesn't sound like it's operating correctly. Can you send it in to us for warranty service?
