Thank's Graham, I will try to send some pic's as i start this long and teadious adventure into the world of aluminum covering a p-38. I've been doing some playing around on how to polish this material for some of the accenting of the nose panel's and other panels on the plane. Here's what i found work's pretty good so far is something called never dull. It's like a can of cotton soaked with some kind of liquid. If anyone ever need's to polish some metal to a high shine it work's. I'll try to post pic's later.Hear are some pic's one of the polishing compond & one of the nose panels.Just thought i'd add these pic's of another lightning i built.

Hi Gregg,

There aren't too many photos of HJGB on the internet - however I can recomend Happy Jack's Go Buggy - A Fighter Pilot's Story by Jack Ilfrey & Mark Copeland available from amazon for 23 bucks - HJGB at amazon

It has some photos and alot of very interesting background.

Good luck

Jason

Hi All!
Does anyone know if someone made/makes fiberglass cowls for the P-38 E/F/Gs that are sized for Ziroli / Robart kits?
It would be nice to build an early model P-38 for once...even if it exposes the motors more.

Please chime in if you know of a source.

Thanks,
langerl

Howdy langerl,
I am in the process of building my robart p-38 as a F or G model. I already have the early model cowlings . When I originally ordered my kit from robart,( years ago), I asked them to make me an F, G, H, model. Sadly, the cowlings were the only thing their guy got right. They sent me L model radiators with the back cut off, a J and L model canopy, ( ziroli canopy), and the incorrect intercooler inlet. Thats the intake attached to the outside of the booms at the trailing edge of the wing. Robart could never get their guy to make the right parts and after awhile, I got tired of calling.
But!!, I like scratch building. I have completely scratch built my cockpit with the correct control wheel, instument panel, gun sight, radio deck, etc., etc.. I have the round wind screen cut out of 020 white sheet plastic and currently taped to the model now. Still needs quite a bit of fine tunning and fitting before I'm satisfied with it's look. I have one correct radiator made out of pink foam that I need to find someone local here with a vac-formmer to make four for me. I went thru alot of foam before I got one I liked.!!
I don't know who's more anal about scale detail, me or Ron! He may have a slight edge on me!!!!
Feel free to call me, I'm disabled and always home in my "hanger", ( I think my wife wants the garage back!).I will be doing steady every day work on this gal until I'm done. Engines will have to wait until someone comes up with a slim engine. Radio gear will come later also as I don't have the money. Hollar at me.

Hi Graham.

I have done some research on the Lesonal paint. I don't know if you order your paint from Germany or the UK and you might already know about this company:

Movac
11 Portman Road
Ipswich
IP1 2BP

Tel. 08708-350048

They don't stock it but will make it to order. I don't know if there is a minimal amount when you order as I haven't spoken to them. I'm still interested in getting the paint from you when you get your delivery.

Regarding the flying site, have not checked yet as I have been up to my neck at work... Oh,wonderful X-mas!! So many teeth fractured on nuts and toffee. Bad for the tooth owner good for my wallet

Was great speaking to you and hoping to see you and Buckaroo soon!!

Benny

Hi Graham.

Any luck with the paint yet? Itching to see wat it is like... Checked the flying-site a few days ago and, no surprise, it's badly waterlogged and the grass is rather long.
Keep in touch...

Benny

Sorry I missed your call ,been out of it for a few days with the flue.
Some good news, we have had some luck with a company/supplier in Bristol and are sorting it out, plus we should get it at a better price.
