Hi Dave,

I thought you would like the Jet,this pic is from Ralle," Talyor Made Decals" same as your Hawks Decals.

Dave how can Mick be disapointed after all that hard work you have done on his Hawk,I can feel the hairs rising on the back of my neck, must be all that thick Scotish blood in me you can't rush a master peice.

Yep, I know what you mean, the weather is good today for a bloody change' Let's hope Phil has got Peter's 38 up in the air and not forgetting safely back on the ground.

Cheers Graham.

Ok my jaw hit the ground, Graham, any more pics of the Super Saber? You have left me at a loss for words, I'm in the presents of greatness! What is it that makes you all in the U.K. so good, is it the bad weather? makes you stay indoors and work on your craft? When the weathers bad here I stay in too, but I spend my time chasing the wife around, instead of working on airplanes. I'd have better luck with the planes LOL

Graham, ok now you've gone way past the stage of a plane I'd be willing to fly. Your craftmanship would be a waste to me as I'd be too leery to even think of flying it.
I'd have to put it in a display case.

Anyhow, Skull here you go. Chrome is #1010. I used less then four of the 8 oz cans to apply 2 coats to the entire bird. I apply it pretty heavy, to get a good flow and flat finish.
By flat I mean texture not gloss. Not quite mirror reflective, more like highly polished aluminum. Just what I was looking for. Most craft shops carry this here in the US, or you can order on line from the other Hobby Lobby, the craft side of the site so many of us use for airplane stuff.

Hi Skull,

Sorry for the slow reply, have been locked in down in the shop painting the other boom, nearly there with all the colours,so I should have all the chrome on by the end of the weekend I can't wait to get her all togeather and see wht she looks like.
I was ment to go up to our first Warbird meet today and have the 38 on display, but as I was loading her into the van I took a gouge out of the wing!!!!!!!! ,so I have just spent the day fixing the repair, that will teach me for rushing.
I have also painted the the spinners, can you tell wich part is the paint and what part is metal!!!!!.

Hi Glacier Girl,

Thank you for you kind comments again, and yes I am getting a bit nervy as I'm hoping to fly her next weekend at a Warbird meet so I hope you will keep you fingers crossed for me.

Cheers Graham.

Hello again Graham, so what part is the paint?? my guess is the bottom by the screw holes. Can you get video of the flight, and then send it to us, or youtube it? I'd love to see her fly!! As always great work!!

Hi Eric,

Yes you are right,I was not going to bother doing that to the spiner, I did not think it would come out as well as it did,it's a testimony to the lesonal Platinum as it looks so convincing, better seeing it in the flesh.

I did manage to find you some more pics on Rales Saber, here you go.
I'm still laughing on what you said about chasing your wife about,no chance for me here

Yes I'm hoping there will be guys there taking some video,if so I will get it up on here.
I have still got tones to do to get her ship shape, plus I have got to weather her up a bit,but that might wait until after she has flown!!!!!!

Cheers Graham

Dear Graham
I word of warning regarding your P38.
We are extremely lucky that Peter's P38 is in one piece.
One of the boom hatches departed in flight, so we performed a precautionary landing.
On landing you could see that one of the booms was out of line with the other.
It had almost severed and the other one was cracked.
This model was inspected by the LMA and built according to the plans.

I directive needs to be issued against the booms on this model.
Be warned.

Regards Phil G.

Outstanding airmanship!!

Another minute or two and it looks as if you may have had a catastrophic failure - good decision & she lives to fight another day.

Can't wait to see the pair of P-38's flying together once the repairs are finished and Graham's gets airworthy.

Best regards

Jason

Hi Jason,Dibble &Phil,

Yes I must agree,Phil you hart must of been in your mouth when you were brining her round on the base leg, that could have been the end of Peters 38,well done,I bet you had a few Ciders after that.

This has now answered the mystery of our one,as you all know I acquired my one off good old Ebay, and once we were giving her the once over down at the Warbird Factory,we noticed what could only be described as a glass bandage around the same area and on both booms, this was not done on the original building stage,so I can only imagine the previous owner has went through the same as you, as there is no other damage,It has been totally baffling on how he managed to do this with out totally spanking her into the ground, so you have answered our mystery.
I now will add some carbon strands on the inside just be on the safe side, the repair that has been done on my one is very good,as after reading this,I have just been down to check my one ,I can lift each boom right at the tail end and hold them out level, they are fine,no movement, but I will add more reinforcement's on the inside.

Once again Phil, great skill on bringing her back home.

Cheers Graham
