Ok, need some help/advice.

On this big ass plane i'm building i'll have 4x brushless motors, 4 x 40a esc's, 4 x 2200 3 cell lipos and 5 x full size servos.
i'll run the 2 inboard esc's in to a Y lead, and the 2 outboard esc's in to a Y lead, then i'll join the 2 Y leads in to another Y lead and then in to the RX.

The Esc's will be 3A/5V bec, will that leave me enough to run the 5 full size servos?

Can i also run a seperate NiCad battery direct in to the RX (as per glow planes)?

Picked up the two planes from Mark ..
Surprised a bit to find the Hellcat still in its box .. I thought it was built for some reason .. not a prob though .. will just have to wait .. (Next project!!)

Geoff was there with his DR1 and I was most impressed!! I am now confident mine will fly OK. He flys it well!! Inverted .. the whole bit .. very impressive!!

Unfortunately one of the guys there thought so too .. and watching the Fokker, he put his extra into the big tree ...

They were assembling conduit to try and poke it down when I left to go back to work.
No flying for me today .... too unwell .. I just watched !!!

Holy Mary in heaven... what are you building?? Something to get you around??

OK... I did a fair bit of reading when I looked into building my P38 and there was a lot of chatter about cutting wires on the ESC before you connect them via a Y lead. There is plenty of argument against it too, and I see no practical reason to do it. I simply connected them together with all cables in place. In fact, you then have more current available to your servos, and if any of the ESCs die, then the others will still feed power to the RX.

If you put all 4 ESCs together, my estimate would be that you are playing with about 9A for servos... I reckon should be right.

Someone esle may chime in... and YES... you could run a separate battery for the RX.

Cheers
-J

OZrcboy - thanks for that link, I'm getting quite into the history of planes as well as the building/flying/crashing of them. That Feissler Storch.... there's only one model of it to my knowledge, its big, and it uses Flaps to their full use, and will drop and land on a fly's arse if needs be. I don't know of any Lysanders though, if you see one its usually built from plans.

Just watching morning news - there's a U-Tube vid going around of a white van man who decides to light up for a smoke whilst driving...problem was he was a welder and his gear in the back of said van.....BOOM!!!! Van burst into flames like a car bomb in Iraq. he'll make a full recovery but he's in wards 1, 2. 3 and 4!!!!

Woodsy ya mad man - 4 b/less, 4 esc's - whats the lipo going to be like?? Are you building the Spruce Goose or what?? I know big is beautiful but thats bloody ridiculous.....you've been out in the sun too long mate!!

When you get a moment take a look around for servos caled DYS - just servos but slightly heavier at 16grm, but what you get is Hitec HS?? reliability and the "ceramic" gears are less likely to strip - the way forward. Oh, and one of the cheapest on the Planet, 1/2 the price of E-Sky, TPro etc.

So, the world is economic decline and shares are in Freefall, tighten your belts and pull up the drawbridge - but not ME!!!!! I've just had my yearly private pension statement and its good, no its bloody fantastic. Yippeee, I had to tell someone that I've just screwed Gordon Brown big time. Most of my pension shares were in building = UP. The rest were commodities bought at basement values 5 years ago = and we know where they are, UP. All sold and re-invested now which means my pension per month has gone from $800Au to $1400Au. Drinks at the BBQ are on me....... And tax free.

That makes it your shout Tam .....and I'll have a double

my neighbour presented the local flying community (me) with some aircraft retrieval equipment tonight ......replaces the old one with this new 30metre sideways reach unit .....perfect for middle of the roof plane retrievals I thought.
No flying yet but you can see we are keeping our airport equipment up to date.....beats the old pliers on a kite string

I'm a huge fan of the E-flite Mini Pulse XT and they've just released a 25E version of it. Bigger wingspan, even more solid in the air, gorgeous paint scheme and if it's anything like the standard size electric version it should be able to take off and land in very short distances.

There's just too many nice planes out there and not enough spare rooms to keep them in!
