I have a TT pro 46. I love it. It's on a PT-19 with a pitts muffler and 3-blade prop.
No problems whatsoever.

I have a GP-42 and love this thing. I have it installed in a 4 1/2 to 5 LB. kitbashed sort of plane. It is a Goldberg Falcon fusealage and a Global American Flyer wing with bigger ailerons and flies it with authority.

Not familiar with the super tigres since I have always owned four strokes.However I am thinking about getting a used S3000 or a new g3250.Now to my question. Whats the difference between these two engines. I am thinking of using it on a Hangar 9 Sundowner. Any help would be more than welcomed. Also why is a new g3250 about the same price as a used s3000

Sorry Lou -- SuperTigre and Thunder Tiger are two totally different manufacturers.

Sorry, you will have to look in "Club Super Tiger" .[;)]

I love my Thunder Tigers! Ive got 2 Pro .36's. One in my 7lb U-2 and the other on my trainer. Ive two Pro .61's new in the box (Im hoping they run well). A Pro .46 in my T-45 Goshawk and my Hanger 9 Tango and a pair of GP .25's in my little SR-71. I'm building a bigger SR-71 that will use a pair of Pro .36's.

ttomcat50 -> RE: Club Thunder Tiger????? (4/1/2008 9:40:57 PM)

Little help. I have a tt pro 46 bb that's about one year old and has had about a galon of fuel through it since break in. I spent plenty of time doing a thorough break in and the engine ran great for the first year. Then, during a flight, I lost power. The engine didn't quit, but would bogg down when applying full throttle. I have it on a bench now and it does the same thing. It starts right up, runs up fine, then after a minute or less, I have to back off the throttle to keep it from dying. I can sort of gun it, intermittently to get it back up to speed but it will still only run wide open for several seconds. I haven't taken anything apart, but the crank shaft turns very smoothly and the glow plug has been replaced. Mixture seems to be right. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Tommy

jeffie8696 -> RE: Club Thunder Tiger????? (4/2/2008 2:20:11 AM)

Funky, Great stuff!!! Beautiful planes all. Cat , when You get an answer let me know, I have seen this on some other engines too. I was thinking either the fuel flow was plugged or perhaps a gasket leak.

rainedave -> RE: Club Thunder Tiger????? (4/2/2008 2:52:26 AM)

jeffie8696, I have the same model. I haven't run mine yet - just finished cleaning it up - but, I hope I get numbers close to yours. 14,800 to 15,000 with an 8x4 is pretty amazing. Mine had just a slight brownish tint on top of the piston; everything else inside looked like new. I'll run it similar to what you did starting with some Sig 5% Champion with extra castor added. Then, I might also try my 1/2A fuel with a colder plug.

BTW, the old OS #21 carb is a perfect fit. I have several of these with different throat diameters (different barrels), so I might try one with a larger throat than the black plastic TT carb.

jeffie8696 -> RE: Club Thunder Tiger????? (4/2/2008 3:03:34 AM)

Dave you just made my day!! it was a rough one. Please keep me informed ! The carb throat size disparity between my 2 .15 size engines is huge. I am dying to see what happens.
Called Thunder tiger and ordered the gasket set for the GP 42 myself. He said it would be here in a few days.

rainedave -> RE: Club Thunder Tiger????? (4/2/2008 5:36:43 PM)

I ran a very rich tank through my little .15. It won't quite hold a steady peak setting yet. When I get there I'll take some tach readings. It hand starts very easily.

David

jeffie8696 -> RE: Club Thunder Tiger????? (4/2/2008 5:49:40 PM)

Don't worry. More nitro will level out the peak once it is broke in[8D]. Just don't rush into it and you will be fine. It takes a while for the older engines to break in and the parts to get used to each other. these engines are not scared of nitro. I spoke to an ex racer for Fox and he said they routinely ran upwards of 40% but they were modified for it. He said a stock engine will handle 20% like a baby drinking mommas milk. I think your engine is in a little nicer shape than mine even.

My old K&B Sportster .45 just ran on 5% and the needle was a little tricky. And it is completely broke in. I am thinking 15% should do the trick next run. [:D] (and it still ran 14,010 on a MA 10X5 [;)])

Dave give us the good news.

rainedave -> RE: Club Thunder Tiger????? (4/3/2008 11:10:19 PM)

It's been too rainy to run engines.[:o] As soon as things clear up I'll fire it up.

Here's one for you:

We finally had a little sunshine today. I didn't have time to try out my other little Fox but I did manage to break in my new ASP .12 [:D] . Runs pretty good, made 14,400 on 15% nitro and a 7X6 Master Airscrew prop. Idles down like a champ too. Sorry I just had to share. I will get my last Fox .15 out and broke in properly tomorrow . jeffie8696 -> RE: Club Thunder Tiger????? (4/16/2008 5:18:04 AM)

I like the idea of the new GP.28 but recently I bought a K&B Sportster .45 that impressed me so much!! I am taking a hard look at the .28 Sportster. Yes I know. Sacrilege. Sorry but I ain''t predjudice.

Sherman -> RE: Club Thunder Tiger????? (4/16/2008 6:51:05 AM)

Several years ago my friend and flying buddy each purchased a TTPro 46. We both loved the engines, and he has bought several more and I now have a total of 4. I Tell people they are the best 40 sized engine I have ever owned (I have been in the hobby for over 40 years, so I have owned a bunch of different engines). An outstanding feature was that when we purchased these engines, they were about $50 cheaper than the OS engine (a fine engine), and were comparable to the OS in ease of use and power. Now, I notice that the OS 46AX, with the Tower offered $10 off, is the same price as the TT engine at the prices I am seeing. The TT sure loses a lot of advantage at the same price as the OS. Am I looking at the wrong places to buy the TT?

XJet -> RE: Club Thunder Tiger????? (4/16/2008 7:15:54 AM)

Even when they''re priced the same, I''d still go for the TT over the OS.

OS are still having the occasional plating failure (unheard of on TTs) and based on my own experience plus that of others, the TT will outlast the OS by a significant margin.

Mr Cox -> RE: Club Thunder Tiger????? (4/16/2008 9:26:41 PM)

Don''t know if I''ll fit in the club with only one TT engine...
I have the TT07 and I like it a lot. I think it is a bit underestimated, sure it is a bit week out of the box but it can easily be improved with a turbo plug and few minor mods. The seamingly heigh weight is all in the proper muffler, so it is a matter of choise to use it or to put a simpler exhaust collector on and fit right in with the Norvels.

Mr Cox -> RE: Club Thunder Tiger????? (4/16/2008 9:27:48 PM)

PS. Whats with the '' signs, they don''t seem to come out right after the update...?

jeffie8696 -> RE: Club Thunder Tiger????? (4/23/2008 7:09:16 PM)

Like I said Mr Cox. I'm not predjudice. Jealous of you having an 07 since I would like one to play with , YES.

bigedmustafa -> RE: Club Thunder Tiger????? (4/24/2008 2:53:19 AM)

I am the current proud owner of a GP-40 2-stroke, a GP-61 2-stroke, two Pro .46 2-strokes, and an F-91s 4-stroke. I have an Ace Whizard kit on my list of things to build for which I will be buying a GP-07 to power it.

I own and have flown O.S. Max, Super Tigre, Magnum, Saito, Enya, MECOA, JBA, and even GMS engines. If I had to choose only one brand of glow engine to own and fly, I'd choose Thunder Tiger.

jeffie8696 -> RE: Club Thunder Tiger????? (4/24/2008 3:32:43 AM)

I have been palying with a lot of engines in the last year. I have not been able to choose a favorite yet. I do find the OS LA engines a little over rated. I would like to see the replacement parts for all manufacturers a lot more affordable. When a piston and liner or muffler cost about 33% of the price of a new engine ????? These are parts that should be affordable in order to keep a good engine running good.

bigedmustafa -> RE: Club Thunder Tiger????? (4/24/2008 3:42:06 AM)

One of the areas that Evolution glow engines are often overlooked is parts pricing and availability. Horizon Hobby does an excellent job of making spare parts both plentiful and affordable.

I forgot to include Evolution on my list, I recently acquired a pair of Evolution TPS .45s, but I haven't flown them in anything as of yet.

cruzomatic -> RE: Club Thunder Tiger????? (4/24/2008 9:06:33 AM)

I want to jump in on this one. I have hummm, lets see,,, 2 of the TT.91RFS one of them is about 5 years old and still runs like new, did have to replace a broken rocker arm though. Then I have 2 of the .61Pros, both run perfect with lots of power with easy starts and 2 of the .46Pros with one of them NIB and still unused.

I would not hesitate to buy another onem, either the 2 or 4 stroke,,Great engines for the money.
