I would like to know also.I have been looking at this for awhile and was wondering if a .61 would be to much. As far as the satio,I would go with the .82 it is only a few bucks more.I have the .82 in my funtana 50 and it works great.

I've never had any experience with this plane, but I know it's pretty cheap, so even if the Edge isn't the best flying plane, it'll still be a good value...

It's kinda hard to say. I really like the Hangar-9 90 size 3D planes, but if I could afford it, the best flying aerobats would be those big 40% Edges and Extras. So far, though, my best aerobatic plane is the Hangar-9 Showtime 90. It flies "pattern," 3D, full throttle, (not recommended) etc. I love it.
In a couple days, I'm gonna put a BCMA 26 gasser in the nose. That'll be interesting...

Picked one up this weekend. Its together and Ive got 7 flights on it so far. I put a OS 55 ax on it with a 13x6 apc, its still not broke in yet so I haven't been too rough on it, but it flies really great. Im thinking the 55 ax may be under powering the plane for true 3D, but we'll see. This is my first true aerobatic plane so Im a noob to scale aerobatics. Flying weight on mine right now is 6 lbs 2 oz, so I'll be cutting the weight down here and there later.
Kit quality is pretty good for the cost. Some of the metal hardware is lacking, such as the motor mount screws are junk, way too soft to be trusted as they stripped right away. Supplied motor mount is also not so good and will probably be changed soon. The wheel pants are VERY thin, and are very light but also very weak and need to be reinforced if used (I used them cause they look good to me). But all of the wood and covering is top notch and I'm very pleased with the buid quality of the parts. Well worth the money IMHO.
Anyone think the 55 ax will power this plane efficiently??

I broke mine in on a 12x6. Right now, I'm using an APC 13x4w, and it pulls good. The engine will pick up rpm after break-in. Just don't overstress the engine during the break-in period [use small props and no lean runs.]

I am looking at one of these in the near future as a third or fourth plane. Would this not be a good idea? Is it too advanced for an Intermediate flyer? Could I power it with a 46? Do you need high performance servos or will standard ones work?

A .46 would be kinda on the low end for power. An intermediate flier would handle this plane just fine, and standard servos will be sufficient to fly the plane. The plane should be a good value for money.

I have flown mine 5 times. Had a dead stick landing this week and the thing was headed into a 12-14 MPH wind on approach. Not a good thing. It wanted to porpous on me. I would give it down and it would dive. Then I would give it up and it would almost stall. It came down very gentle in my opionion but took off the left landing gear. I have discovered that this is one weakness in this kit. It has a two peice landing gear. Two screws holding on the left and two holding on the right. I am going to take out all of the plywood in this area and replace and then put a one peice landing gear on it. This plane should be able to take more than I experienced this week. Other than that I have enjoyed this model. I am powering mine with a Evolution .46 and it has plenty of power. Maybe not enough to do the real expert moves but enough to pull most manuevers off. This is a really nice looking plane on the flight line. People comment that it is very nice looking. Enjoy!

you really can,t go past using a good 4 stroke engine for both aerobatics and 3D . before i bought my Katana Freestyle 40 there were a couple of guys in the club that had these models , one was fitted with an o.s. 55 ax and the other was fitted with an o.s. 81 four stroke. the 55 powered model was faster but no where near as good as the 81 powered 4 stroker. this is why i chose the 4 stroke, big torque and big props.

I've got four flights on one powered with an Irvine .53
It seems to be a pretty honest airplane, does not drop a wing in slow flight so landings are fairly easy. Only problem so far is that it needs more right thrust, very noticeable when you pull into a vertical climb.
I used all the hardware except for the spinner and engine mounting screws, plus a ball link on the throttle. Nothing I'd buy if scratch building, but seems good enough for a cheap ARF.
I did notice that the tail was very well aligned to the wing. Just the right thrust on the engine is off.
One mod was to box the front top of the engine box with a plate of 1/8" plywood and a bit of right angle stock.
