skull1971 -> Engine rule (3/6/2008 8:21:40 PM)

I guess this is more for the Texas group, than everyone. I have an OS engine but I don't have the muffler, I do have a PBox off of an AX 46, can I run it and still be counted as legal?

skull1971 -> RE: Engine rule (3/6/2008 8:29:45 PM)

Thanks.

This is copied from the "Official" rules of the Texas Club 40 group -

Advanced class – Any ball bearing .40 engine with a retail price of ($120.00) or less. Super Tiger .40 or TT Pro .40 recommended. No specialty race engines such as Nelson or Jett are allowed.

Engines must be STOCK – no speed enhancements such as porting, balancing etc. is allowed. The CD or race organizer retains the right to disqualify any modified engine.

All engines must use the Carburetor and muffler originally supplied with the engine. Carburetor and muffler must be used STOCK – NO modifications allowed! (including removal of baffles) Engines must demonstrate extended idle and transition. Engines must shut off on command from the transmitter.

Any commercially available propeller is allowable.

And this is from the RCPRO club 40 rules -

Club 40 Engines

Advanced Class
Recommended

Thunder Tiger Pro .40 BB ABC w/Muffler

Acceptable Alternatives

SuperTigre GS-40 Ringed w/Silent Muffler

GMS .40 ABC BB Remote Needle Valve w/Muffler

Evolution .40NT w/Muffler

Novice Class
Recommended

SuperTigre GS-40 Ringed w/Silent Muffler with 11x4 prop

Acceptable Alternatives

O.S. .40 LA w-Muffler Natural

O.S. .40 LA w-Muffler Blue

O.S. .40 FP

ALL ENGINES MUST BE STOCK!!! Including carburetor and muffler supplied by the manufacturer. Baffles, if supplied, MUST BE IN THE MUFFLER!

Any prop may be used in Advanced class, or on OS 40 LA or OS 40 FP in Novice class.

So the short answer is "No" it is not legal.

Of course, the CD has the option to allow any changes as long as they are announced in advance or discussed at the pilots meeting...

"Engine must use carb. and muffler originally supplied withthe engine."

Ok no problem, Thank you Gunfighter for clearing that up.

Has anyone ever talked about a "Limited Modified" class, ya know let us tweek these 40's to see what we can get them to do?

gunfighter -> RE: Engine rule (3/7/2008 12:16:37 AM)

"Talked about it"?? Yes

Approved it - NO.

You have to understand - We have a group of 45 - 50+ pilots from 8+ clubs. Approving any thing is a long process!

We talked about having a "Pro" class (which would allow after market mufflers) but it has not materialized yet.

Just my .02,
Why spend the time to tweak a motor that will be marginal in life and performance when you can buy a far superior engine, like a Jett, turn key?
After a very close look and a bunch of reading I can't see a whole lot of room for improvement on the TT .40. Simple things like a bearing and shim but otherwise you will be so off tune at the start line everyone will know you are running a cheater motor.

skull1971 -> RE: Engine rule (3/7/2008 4:24:54 AM)

The short answer, I don't want a Jett, I'd rather waste hours and hours of time and effort for nothing[:D][:D][;)]
I guess thats the revver, or redneck coming out in me.
Really that would start the whole war, again, about the one with the most money. Or spending $$ every week to upgrade to run up front.
Chuck answered the question, and that's good enough for me. [sm=thumbs_up.gif]

vicman -> RE: Engine rule (3/7/2008 4:40:04 AM)

So my .40 with .46 sleeve & piston with cleaned up ports, and tweaked crank don't make your list of favs? Shoot I even had the piston coated with TDC!

Back to my comment, I can't put it on the start line with a clean concience with it spooling a 9X6 at 18.5+. It was a neat experiment on how to do an engine tho.

skull1971 -> RE: Engine rule (3/7/2008 4:50:05 AM)

HEHEHEHE I love it!!!

I'd just like to play with one, say a TT40 and just see what would happen. I'd really like to see what all the other guys would come up with too!!
So the 18.5+ would be the first one to look at and see what make it tick. You'd just have a few rules, 15%nitro, bolt on mini pipe only, say 9X6 prop only, and has to have a working carb no bigger than 9mm. Oh and stay with the .40 disp. After that go nuts!!!

vicman -> RE: Engine rule (3/7/2008 2:42:22 PM)

No mods to the carb or muffler for mine. That would be more obvious than the RPM note.

skull1971 -> RE: Engine rule (3/7/2008 3:15:16 PM)

Vic,, I'm not talking about a cheater, I'm talking about a class that allows us to do that. I'd never cheat, I wouldn't want a rep like that, that's one that would follow you to the grave. We have car guys, here in Houston, that haven't even raced in 10 years, that are still cussed for cheating. Seems, around here, NOBODY forgets.
Like I said above it'd be fun just to see all the different things that people would come up with. Ya know, that "More than one way to skin a cat", thing.

vicman -> RE: Engine rule (3/7/2008 4:30:58 PM)

I guess I'm ready to play then. I was goofing around with one of mine that was a little more than burnt out so I didn't have anything to loose other than time.

To all in the NC area. My race day engines are available for teardown any day, 100% box stock other than the fix to keep the muffler from falling apart. I hate cheaters too.[;)]
