Hey, I am wondering whether I should go with an OS 46 FX or a broken in Saito 82 on this plane. I am looking for good 3D power, but will the 82 shake it apart since it does not have a carbon tube in the fuse?

Thanks
Joe

The 46...won't be a super great 3D'er, but that depends on your 3D skills! If you're just starting out.then use the 46. It will be more than you need....right now!!

Besides....those birds fly better with a little less weight on the nose.

I would slap an OS55AX on it!!!

Good Luck!!

Maniac is right, unless you use a m.c. muffler with header on that 46, it will have about 85% of the power that you wish it had. The Saito 82 will be fine, and the Kat 40 will handle it - no problems.

The choice of engine depends on many factors and the Saito might not be the best option -- depending on a few things.

If you're already at the stage in your 3D flying where you can get out of trouble without breaking a sweat then the Saito will be fine but - if you're still a little way down the learning curve there's a lot to be said for having the cheapest possible engine (commensurate with performance) you can get.

When learning you're almost certainly going to dork that bird pretty bad from time to time and I don't know about you but I'd much rather bury a cheap 2-stroke than an expensive 4-stroke.

I've got a Saito 100 on my Mojo 60 because that bird is just so *easy* to 3D that I feel really confident at all angles and altitudes (or lack thereof).

I tend to use TT46Pros more than my Saito 82 on 40-sized profiles though -- mainly because I know they've got more than enough power and if I do dork them then I'm not up for expensive repairs. Most of my TT46's have already been dorked more than a few times and they have (so far) suffered no damage. When I dorked my Saito 100 though, it cost me a new set of pushrods and tubes -- a friend dorked his Saito/Katana 70 and it cost him a new carb, manifold, tubes and pushrods ($$$).

I've got a Katana 46V2 under my bench and it'll get a TT46Pro but the Mojo40 that's on the building board right now will get the Saito.

Thanks a lot for your help!

I am going to go with the Saito 82. You cant beat the sound of a 4 stroke, plus the other flyers wont mind it right over the runway doing 3D
I have a few years of 3D experience with Foamies, and glow planes, including a Boxxer I owned...im not exactly sure what happened...it just did large uncontrollabe circles towards the earth.
I will get some pictures when it arrives, and hopefully all this snow melts so I can do a maiden on wheels, not skiis, forecast says 10 cm by tonight and 10 cm tomorrow

Thanks a lot for you help

Are there any mods I should do when building it? Or should I just follow the instructions?

Thanks
Joe

Mount the engine last so the CG will be as close as you can get it, and seal all bare wood with thin CA or something. Those Kat's fly great.

T.T. Pro 46 would be great for the V2 46, with a 12X4 APC prop its a winner !

Sweet, I hope this flies as well as my Boxxer did. I sure am not in any rush because there is TOO MUCH SNOW! We got about 10 cm last night here, and 25-35 cm in the forecast for today!

Will my 82 fit in the motor mount without mods?

Thanks
Joe

I know many fly the Saito 82 on the TMPro 46 V2,
I personly don't like 4cy on profile, and I think its to powerfull,
people like it to be so powerfull though, so I guess it works...
look at the TMPro web site, the video link there show it with 4cy 82 or 70 not sure...

I think personally you cant beat the TT Pro 46 for performance and price but the biggest benifit is it is so much lighter than the 4 strokers and so much smoother ! But the saito would work great in the TMPro Katana 46 V2!

Hey, so I am definately going with the 82. I have a pair of landing gear from my Boxxer Arf, and I am wondering if I should put them on the Katana instead of the wire ones.

Thanks
Joe
