My question relates to my first plane with more than 4 servos. I have a 1/4 Scale Spacewalker, 600 ma pack, and 5 servos. (4 Futaba 3004BB and 1 Hitec 605BB hi-torque on the elevator). I will NOT be doing a lot of aerobatics. I am not familar with anything other than the 600 ma pack. (physical size and weight). I would like to get one hour flying time from of a full charge. Preliminary tests show less.... with a homemade discharger, and a 400 ma draw. I already have a heavy plane so I want to keep weight increase to a minumum.: Someone said there were 700 and 800 ma packs availabe. How much help would this be, and what is the difference in weight, from the standard 600 ma pack? Thanks....... lownslo

Bob.

Sanyo has 1100 in the same size and weight as your 600's and they also have 16050 nimh packs, same size and weight. You will need a charger capable of charging the higher capacity packs.

Try this URL:

It will show what Sanyo has to offer and you can decide what fits your needs.

Bob,
In answer to your question about batteries for more servo's than 4. The first thing I would consider is to go with a 5 cell pack. It will give you a faster servo response. Not so much on the movement away from center. But it will give a faster return to center. The really big advantage is if you get a short in one cell you still have a nice voltage left to run everything so you can get back on the ground.

Fro piece of mind I would look into a good peak charger that will do cycling. It will tell you if you have a bad cell during the charge cycle or during the discharge.

As to the size of the pack. If you will go to a NiMh battery you will have about 3 times the energy in the same size pack. If you have a chance to look at Wal-Mart sometime, look at the rechargable batteries in the electronic section. You will notice you can buy NiMh AAA size that are 1200 Mah. So that will give you some idea of the difference in the amount if energy you can get in the new batteries.
I really like using the NiMh batteries. The cost is dropping and the things are very reliable.
The best energy bargain for power to weight ratio is to the Li-ion battery. But they are spendy and when they run out of power they drop off faster than niCad's do.
Good Luck.
Ken

Hi I also am about to trim flight my space walker although I have many other models and years of flying I chose also the hitec 605's for the rudder and 1@ for each elevator side and with 2 jr coreless high speed high torque on the ailerons my choise of 5cell 1400mAh flight pack with voltage moniter in dash. Here is why, if you moniter the current draw on a larger flight surface you will be suprised to see big surges of current leaveing the battery pack depleated sooner smaller packs in bigger planes might lead to the same errors of my past of running out of current befor fuel 1200 up batteries are worth their weight in gold
