Check this outIt is new and I don't know if it shipping yet. I also don't know how this compare to 4-stroke vs the 2-stroke.

from E-Flite
Power 90 Brushless Outrunner Motor 325 kV
Overview

Designed to deliver clean and quiet power equivalent to or surpassing the power of a 90-size 2-stroke glow engine for sport and scale airplanes weighing 8- to 13-pounds (3.6- to 5.9-Kg), 3D airplanes up to 10-pounds (4.5-Kg), or models requiring up to 1800 watts of power. It will provide excellent 3D performance for the Hangar 9 Frenzy 100 ARF, ShowTime 4D 90 ARF, FuntanaX 100 ARF and other similar class models. The Power 90 also provides great power and performance for the Seagull Ultimate Bi-Plane 90 ARFs.

It mainly depends on the application. If you can be a bit more specific, that would surely help .
For a pattern/3D plane a good rule of thumb is to have about 350W or more per kg flying weight.

90 add a 0 =900 times 2 =1800 1800 is watts needed min.
i how ever chose astro flight 120 [3500 watts on 12cells.
good luck

Ok so is this rimfire(50-65-450 Brushless Outrunner) the equivalent of the eflite 90
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXLWW0&P=K

Motor Diameter: 1.97" (50mm)
Motor Length: 2.56" (65mm)
Shaft Diameter: .32" (8mm)
Shaft Length: .79" (20mm)
Lead Length: 3" (76mm)
Connectors: Bullet type, .16" (4mm) diameter
Max. Constant Current: 50A
Max. Surge Current: 80A
Max. Constant Watts: 1480W
Max. Surge Watts: 2360W
No Load Current: 2.3A
Input Voltage: 18.5-29.6V
RPM/V (kV Rating): 450
Weight: 14.1oz (400g)
Suggested Propeller Size: 12x8E-17x8E

I really like 60 sized planes, slightly overpowered with 90 sized 2 strokes. I have a 10lbs top flite mustang and plan on also building the top flite spitfire(probably also 10lbs), and I want to go electric. I'm looking for performance of maybe approx 60-80mph and decent vertical(not necessarily unlimited but I like very large loops). Anyways is this about the right motor and I guess I need two 14.8V lipos to get the 29.6 v input, so what size for each pack. P.S. I would be happy with a motor that will spin a MA 14X6(or equivalent) at say 11000rpm at full power.

Oh one more question will this esc handle this motor/battery combo, it says max surge current 72A?

The Hyperion Z4035-B14 would be a good .90 equivelent.

Im using the Z4020-B14 in my Helios 63e, and its a pretty sporty motor. They say its equivelent to a YS63, but I think it maybe a little hotter than that.
Im impressed with the Hyperion motors. Definatly not short of power, and they run cool.

One other brand to consider is the Scorpion motors. We recently put a Scorpion 4025 in a 69"QQ yak, and its INSANE amounts of power.Scorpion states its a 2000W motor, Far more power than the recommended 1.20 for that plane. Id say its more like cramming a 2.00 in it. Ive never seen a plane with that much power to weight performance on it. Based on its performance, Id highly recommend taking a serious look at what they have to offer for your size requirements. I can tell you this...if you put that 4025 in anything in the 10lb weight catagory, it wouldnt have any problems flying P07 or F3A. Its almost scary how much power it has.

Hopefully QQ himself will fly it at SEFF. The plane will be there, along with QQ, so if you manage to make it to SEFF....stop by and check it out.

I'm looking for a good power level, I don't really need extreme power as its just a warbird.

There's no such thing as too much power...

Ok, maybe a better way to word what I'm looking for is what setup would a need to achieve approximately 10lbs of thrust. I would be perfectly happy with a 1:1 power level, can this be achieved with a 6S 22.2v system or will I need to go with a 8S 29.6v. I have noticed things get much more expensive when you go over 6S.

Ive not seen any setups capable of pulling 10lbs around with any authority on 6S.
8S is really the way to go once you get past around 8lbs+

Lipos are getting cheaper...so do some shopping for the best price.

Thats kind of the impression I was getting, so it looks like you can get two 4S packs for about $240, a high voltage esc for about $120, a lipo balance charger for $150, and a decent motor for $100.

total = $610

Dont forget the BEC, and a lipo to run the rx and servos.
, and you can use a 2cell lipo to power the rx and servos.

Ill try to post pics of the 69" QQ yak setup when I get a chance to give you an idea of what a 8S setup would be like.

Ya, that would be great. Can you tell me what mah's you running on each pack, and how long is your charge time between flights?

We just ordered the Cyclon 80HE ESC- to use with "60"sized (and 90 sized) motors
the reason was that -much like the prior write who is not into F3A, we still wand really good performance
I use A123 cells exclusively on electrics ove r 20 ozs.
shorter flight times -yes -but in this case -I can now just add a cell to boost power as needed -so I will go from 6-to 7- or 8 on 7-8 lb models No 240 buck battery packs for me.
A local friend uses 16 ,A123 in his 74"Extreme Flight Yak (Nue geared motor) -terrific performance -far better than the original dual Lipo setup. 7 minute recharge - and similiar time flying (or more - we just fly till the models get "soft " no harm -all very cool running.
Just another approach----
