Hi!

The other day, my physics teacher at school gave me this 'mysterious object' to work out what it is - he found it lying around.

I think it may be some sort of shielded cable - if anyone has any better ideas or what it might have come from/been used for, I'd love to hear any theorys!

Here are the photos:

In case you can't tell - it is a (rubber?) bendy tube coiled in lots of enammelled wire. I don't know what is in the centre of the tube, although I think I can see a red wire (which is very thin - about 3mm. The tube is roughly 35mm diameter. Please feel free to ask questions.

Possibly - though wouldn't an antenna be stiff, not bendy?

A flexible connection for directional antenna.

A high frequency amplifier?

You could make some whopping wild frequencies by putting a magnetic field on the outside coils and running a variable frequency on the inner wire. Change the shape of the thing, and frequencies would shift again. Sort of a weird tesla coil.

Just a wild, wild, guess.

7 years in Broadcast TV, I never saw a waveguide like that..

All the ones I saw were hollow.

Looks to me to be some sort of waveguide tube for a radar unit or something like that... The ones I've seen didn't have ends on them like that though...

Could be a type of delay line to phase match multiple gain antennas.
