As far as graphics, FMS isn't all that. BUT ... as far as learning basic orientation, learning to trim the plane out, take offs and landings, (which is about only thing any sim could teach you) it does just fine. Anything more than that is just a game.

I guess I wasted $300 buck on my sim .

I'm not trying to start a flaming war here but a good sim will teach you a lot more then that. If you want to teach yourself 3D flying with a real RC airplane/heli you better have deep pockets (not everyone but most people).

yeah well i am just wanting to get the basics down real good before i start any 3D flying.i plan on buying a better sim later on for that. i see the graphics are looking like something from the original nintendo, so i didn't know if the planes flew like something from nintendo or if it was pretty acurate

Only a really rich person would go straight to 3D without the aid of a trainer and maybe a sport plane as a second. I don't care how good the sim is, they are all based on assumption. They assume the weather is as predictable as you make it, they assume that the engine is perfectly tuned, they assume that the batteries are fully charged at all times, but the most important thing is that there is no little red reset button that works in real life.
I wouldn't say you wasted $300 on a sim, but that is a little more than I would want to pay gor a game.
The flight mechanics aren't perfect in FMS, and the planes slow down a little faster than in real life, but that too can be adjusted. Like I said, they're all based on assumption.

Yeah, the FMS people obviously have never flown in Kansas, where the wind can come from any direction at any time during any 5-15 or longer flight for any plane. Had that happend during a flight with my FW190, wind just changed direction within minutes in a wide open field. Haven't gotten my sim to do that.

Okay..tell me which sim has the ability to change wind directions and where do I find the menu that say wind spanws in whatever directions.

FMS has wind and thermal.

TRUN OFF the FIXED camera view in the veiw option. As a defualt it comes like that.
But if you turn it off...the model will float all over the screen....unlike some other sims, that only
gose up and down no matter what you do.lol

There's plenty of models set up for 3d in FMS...or you can just change the perimeter of whatever model
to what you want. Kind of like the other sims

FMS planes don't fly like the ones in real life, but every different plane flys differently in real life anyway. What's important is making that link from plane to brain through your thumbs and then get a good trainer and take it slow.

I started this hobby on a $15 'on sale' now-extinct simulator using a game pad with two joysticks, throttle mapped to a slider. It was good enough to get me to learn how to fly a Slow Stick with minimal crashing. Once you can fly, move up only one step at a time and you'll do fine.

What I liked about that sim, were the tutorials like you get in the better sims. I had to fly through big donuts in the sky. Go straight through the donut, turn left through the donut, take off and fly through the donut.... It made learning a little more structured, FMS has nothing like this.

$20 FMS controller

Money spent on a sim is money saved in crashed planes.

No they don't fly like in real life. I think they fly slower in the sim than in real life, except for the extremely difficult to control jets (FMS). Plus in the real world, you have periferal (sp?) vision which helps, but I reckon if you can get good at keeping a model within a box in the sky then you got it made right?

FMS has the obstical cousre or Rings. You can copy and paste that object from a pre existing scene (.scn file)
and put it any where you want in another scenery...it's just basic math. The Z = hiegth..oki doki.
You can even scale it to whatever size you want, just like the other sims...there's just not a quick edit menu like the
the sim you purchase.
Heck I even made a 3d scenery with a couple sets of rings ..you can download it , if you look around.

There's a link to the download page on FMS's main site...the training course is the first one you see.lmaf

You can adjust the max thrust to 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000. It'll fly faster than the real jets.lol

Btw...I have the other sims too.

here's my crappy FMS..lol
i slapped in Aerofly, preflight's, Clearview scenries and some that the other sims don't have.
Btw,,it's just the arionian mode I'm play in the solo.

Notice how the model dosn't stay FIXED to the center of the screen ???

Hello everyone,

Long time reader, first time poster. I just received my $25 Century USB controller that came with a FMS disc from Tower-Hobbies.
The box that the order came in (other stuff I ordered ) wasn't packed very well and there sounds like there is something loose
inside the controller. When I calibrate for flight, the aeleron channel glitches and when I fly the planes don't want to go to the right.
I have to wait until Monday and see if Th will take it back.

Does anyone have info on an usb controller for FMS beside the one listed on this thread (listed by time pilot) I checked it out and they
wanted $12 to ship. I have 2 arms and 2 legs and don't want to part with them just for an usb controller. I'm new to the hobby and
with my tax return bought an Electristar EP Select with 4 batteries and a Flyzone J3Piper cub with 2 batteries. Just wanted to get some
sim time in before flying weather comes. Any suggestions???

Yeah, I did. All the other channels move on the screen in full range, but the aeleron doesn't.
When I move the stick left it moves all the way down nice and smooth, but to the right it starts blinking
on the screen and going haywire. Like I said, i think it was damaged during shipment.
