Thanks opjose i'm planing on buying a futaba 7c 2.4ghz computor radio are the sevos that nitroplane sell or the ( aka Hextronics ) HG5010, Hitec MG 225MG compatable or do i have to stick with futabas? the receiver is a r617fs 2.4ghz fasst rx 7 channel

For the most part, ( and I've never run into a servo that this was not true for ) you can freely mix servos from other manufacturers.

The only difference is that the Futaba connectors have an "ear" on one side. This only affects the servo side of the connector, so I just cut or file off the ear if need be.

The connector is still keyed so as to make it difficult to insert it the wrong way, and removing the ear, and inserting the connector to the JR/Airtronics type receptacle causes a nice and tight fit which is difficult to dislodge. It's can be tight enough that I've done away with the shrink wrap, dental floss, tape, locking mechanism to keep the connectors from seperating in flight.

So you will have no problems using other manufacturers servos.

At very worst there are small adapters available, but I never bother, I just cut the small ears off the Futaba style serves... and they still can be used with Futaba style devices w/o any problems.

Going the other way the JR style servos plug directly into the Futaba receptacles w/o ANY modification. So you are good either way.

I have a smaller electric one and had to make several modifications to the CG position, horizontal stab position and engine size,as even that one required a bigger electric brushless than stated. Now it flies OK, so I hope this one is not as tedious.

Yup I did the same thing. I ended up with a 600w 22v engine and a 80AMP ESC using the 6S1P 3800mAh battery packs.

NOW it flies great, but I'd like a bit more speed.

Where did yours balance with the larger engine?

What I did is I used a Venom 1200mAh battery pack, which is long but thin, so I was able to shove it into the nose with foam around it.

This offset the higher weight of the engine perfectly and it balanced out exactly as indicated.

The weight on the ST and Towers engine varies by about 3 ounces.
Did you have to change the engine mounts to facilitate the larger engine and prop size?
Thanks again

I remove some of the fiberglass on the engine mount area to provide additional needed clearance. The wood under the fiberglass is exceptionally HARD... I could barely sand it.

This kept the thrustline at exactly the same position as with the smaller engine.

I wicked CA into the provided wooden blocks an mounted them as per these pictures... there are more in my gallery.

And how I handled the exhaust:

BTW: there is another thread here where I gave the simple to obtain and inexpensive parts to route the exhaust through the wing as I now have it set up... this worked so much better.

You can also see images of my first attempt to power the Bobcat .25 with a 500watt 11v motor, that proved woefully inadecuate.

The idea of using spoilers seems great. How does the plane react with them deflected? Real drastic pitch down or mild, and does it cause any problem in the flare?
What deflection angle are you using?
I have a JR 9303 and and 7202 , think they can be configured for the spoilerons.

About 1/4" or LESS upward deflection is all that is needed.

The spoilerons increase drag, and slightly decrease lift, while making the plane eaiser to control as it approaches it's stall speed.

There is far less of a tendancy for it to porpoise around.

It also permits you to hold the nose high as it lands creating a very realistic, jet like landing. The nose can be held this way longer helping to slow the plane down ( something that has been problematic for me and this helps cures ).

It's a SNAP to set this up on the JR radios.

To refresh my memory I'll need to pull out my radios so I'll post instructions later.

Thanks for all the helpful info.
On the Bobcat 50 with your motor setup where is your balance point?
Looking forward to receiving the model and setting it up.
Problem is I now need an extra garage to store my models.
My small electric on to the Bobcat is the Lingcat.
I also Have an Ultimate 90..A C160 twin , I think also from Nitro models, A Showtime Hangar 9 50. and from Chinas World Models Radar Hobbies the electric ducted Unijet, and a V stick 50 amidst two other small electrics which I fly off the lake behind my house. Helis are also my second interest. Then the cars and boats. This hobby is truly addictive.
Where are you guys flying? I am in Ft Lauderdale Fla, where weather is mostly fine, but of the last few weeks, nothing but high winds and rain.

My motor setup is right on the recommended 10.3".

I fly here: Click me!

IMHO we have a fairly nice setup, which is sponsored by the county government.

I see that you are officially an "addict". I feel for you.

Do you also have war wounds from the hobby yet?

Hello again. It has been a while between work and weather but I may just get started on this model. Now I have all the info you gave me prior, what is your opinion on the OS61 I think it is for this also for weight versus power. Still have to look up the info on setting the spoilerons. When you went through the wing for the exhaust tube, what exactly and where did you acquire it for that setup? I was also looking at the possibility of retracts. Do you have retracts on your and if so what are you using. I have a choice with either using the stock gear wires with the retracts or having the shock type ones for a few more bucks. A friend of mine that had a similar model to this one, had to buy special wheels, as the normal plastic one broke on landing due to the high speed approach and side loads with a crosswind. I htink you had also mentioned where to get the Graupner or Zinger props. Could you give me the sites for them?My brother lives in the Maryland area and if it was not so much trouble to travel with models, I would love to pay your flying field a visit. Looks great from the photos. Thanks again for all the help. Owen

The long Bobcat thread answers most of these questions.

I also posted the "through the wing" exhaust configuration there.

Have a look by: Clicking on me!

Go from here on for the exhaust...
