Our clubs prior fun flies have just been club competition events.
Some of us want to expand the purpose of the event.
One club I was with invited other clubs, had competitions, charged an entry fee and gave prizes.
We didn't make a lot of money but added a few bucks to the coffers and had lots of fun.
I was wondering what other clubs do?

Your input will be a great help to us.
Let us know what you do and what you've experinced from other clubs.

Thanks,

In addition to fellowship with other flyers, we use our events as a recruiting tool. We advertise locally and invite the public to attend.

In this area, the real FUN-FLY has all but evaporated. When people quit building models and started assembling models and then started simply blocking the runway the Fun-Fly really went down hill rapidly.
In addition, in today's groups the term "Fun-Fly" -- a competitive event -- is very often confused with the "Fly-In" which is a non-competitive event.

The AMA Competition Regulations, Event 705, contains many tasks for a Fun Fly which the innovative CD can pick, choose, combine, twist and whatever to make a very interesting day. Unfortunately so few RC people today have the ability to fly in the orchestrated discipline of a true competition event that a CD will certainly have a difficult time to be able to do a good one, especially if weather is a factor.

Real contests of seasoned contestants makes for a snap to CD, as compared to those not learned in being ready to fly at the time and simply lacking in moving the event along in the competive disciplined whirl. You, Mr. CD, will earn your keep.

IMO, it will be more a group of individuals rather than club representations. Many years ago, late '70s, early '80s, I organized an AMA District VI Club Team Championship program. It went well, until I left the area and then it went somewhere I know not where.

For 11 years my club here hosted an annual Fun Fly. The event changed each year, but mostly consisted of 4 rounds, each round with two tasks modified from AMA CR 705. Each round had point scores for round winner. Then overall, each contestant received ONE point for each person he bested in the round. Those points determined the final 3 places. $10 (15 last) entry fees were charged. Club got 10%. 1st 30% 2nd 25%, 3rd 15% and each round winner got 5%, total 20%.
I retired from CDing the event each year and no one took it up this year.

Betting that is more than you asked for!
