Could somebody let me know a good source for eps foam blocks, I'm cutting my own wing cores and I'm having trouble finding a source for foam.

Icabod,

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger....for some reason (mostly price) it has become VERY difficult to obtain the foam we need for foam wings. I have a HUGE foam distributor less than 25 miles from my house but he won't sell to me...$3000 MINIMUM order. To find the 1 pound per cubic foot closed cell foam we need, you are simply going to have to find a manufacturer in California and then ask them WHO DO THEY SELL TO THAT WOULD SELL TO YOU !!

I have a great supplier in Martinsville, VA, (Tri State Foam), who is giving my small kit company a reduced "minimum" order so I don't have to drive to my "other" supplier who is over 100 miles away. (Martinsville is only 65).

I would have to suggest you forget ordering from the internet as the shipping will kill you. USPS and all the carriers don't care what it weighs anymore, just size... and that puts you in the "jumbo box" category.

I believe my first suggestion is your best alternative... and don't be afraid to ask a salesman for a discount... you may get one....

Good luck.... I hope you don't have to drive as far as I do...

Look up in the Yellow Pages, (if you can still find one with the internet taking all the business) Many supplies will sell you a full sheet on a cash ticket.

What are "Yellow Pages"? You mean that thing I burn for a year's worth of kindling?

Look for a contractor that builds coolers for restaurants and such.
The outfit we found in our aera stocks all types and sizes, and sells by the 4x8 sheet.

Companies that carry Stucco contractor supplies sometimes carry 1lb density foam. I've found it up to 4" thickness.

Being a newbie myself and trying to do the same thing your are, my advise may not be correct but I asked the same question of someone that cuts their own wing cores. His reply was that he goes down to a local furniture store and askes for the solid foam packing used around some furniture. Since they have to pay to have the garbage man haul it off they are often more than willing to let you have it. If this is the correct type of foam then the size will often be big enough for some decent wings. That foam was often sprayed in around the item being protected. That foam looks like the spray on foam used for insulating a lot of things in the construction industry (including stucco as suggested by someone else) so you might also ask an industrial insulation company if they know of a contractor that uses or applies it. If it is not the correct type of foam then forget that I mentioned it!

I hope that is helpful.
