Tom, I have the rudder horns drilled on the hinge line and spread 3 inches apart. It looks like I will have to extend the slot for the cable 1 and 1/2 inches to achieve a 40 degree deflection with the wire clearing everything. Does this sound correct? Will this weaken the fuselage?

Do you have the horns 3 inches from the center line of the rudder or 3 inches from the outside surface. Makes a huge difference and sounds like you have them way to far out. You want the horns the same distance out from the center line of the rudder as the control arm on the servo is out from the servo.

I have them 3 inches apart to match the 3 inch servo horn, so the rudder cables form a rectangle.

You have something wrong. Normally with the horns spread 3" apart the cables line up with the slots.

Did you cross the cables? They are supposed to be straight.

The cables line up with the slots ok, but if the rudder is deflected more than 30 degrees they catch the back of the slot. If the slots where lengthened 1.25 inches, they would be fine. I noticed another builder of this plane had the same problem and he lengthened the slots and used tubing at the rear of the slot. I would prefer to have nothing touching the cable through 40 degrees of deflection. Would extending the slots hurt the strength of the fuselage?

Theres not much back there in the way of structural....lengthen them, I did and Ive got bout 30 flights, you will probably not need more than 30 degrees anyway.

I think Tom better look into this and correct it on the next load of planes!! Panzlflyer and Grotesquebass, thanks for the help. I'm the only guy around here with giant scale, and I don't know what I would do without people like you. By the way, don't you just love this airplane. I can't wait to see how it flies.
