Just wanted to say thanks for the suggestions and guidance on my unused Sportwerks .21 V2 motor. I used heat, worked the motor, and tested it out on the start box. This motor just snags and when it is snags, it takes alot of force to unsnag it. To test it further, I even removed the .26 motor out of my Turmoil RTR and removed the hand electric crank and put it on the .21 motor. I then attached the electric crank and tried turning the motor. When the motor snagged, the electric starter would not turn it either. You can tell a major difference bettween the .21 and .26 motor. The .26 motor does get "tight" when the piston is in the upwards firing position, but you can still turn the motor fairly easily. The .21 motor requires some major force to turn it. The starter box (a dual motor, 12V OFNA box) won't even turn the motor at all. It just shreads the rubber starter wheel.

So, in the end, it appears my motor is DOA and I hope that Horizon will do something for me (though I do not think they will). I went ahead and purchased another motor (nothing high end), so I can at least start using the pro.

That looks great! Looks like fun. I cannot wait until I get to the point I am able to run in a competative environment. How did the Turmoil do? Did it keep up with the more expensive high end models?

Looking at your pics....I see some big gas guzzler vehicles. Did you happen to notice lower attendance at this event due to the cost of fuel? Just curious. Great Pics!

i finished 4th in the a amain out of 11 (this was my first race by the way). yes i can keep up with the high end motors even though my motor is only a $109 picco motor but my buggy is setup for low end power. attendence was down at this race but it wasnt because of gas prices, it was because there were 2 other races going on in the state of georgia (someone did some bad scheduling!!)

Unfortunately, I had the back plate off and the glow plug out. There would have been no compression in the motor. I have tried many things to see if snagging would ease and the motor would run a bit more freely. The same problem continued. I think I just got the luck of the draw on this one. I have tried looking for replacement pistons and piston sleaves to see if it is one of those that is causing the problem. I have not been able to find any parts fot that motor. I have contacted Horizon Hobbies to see if they would be willing to help me out on this (the marketers of the Sportwerks line). They have a very rigid warranty, so I have to assume I am out a motor, before it was ever even run.

Thanks for all of the ideas and comments!

Thats 2 bad, ebay sells alot of parts 4 them. Have u pulled the sleeve out 2 see if the wrist pin clip came out. Its ease 2 do. Remove the head, put a plastic tie just in a port then turn the piston up and the sleeve will come out.

I have bought parts on ebay before, but I have not seen any spare parts for the sportwerks motors. I will keep looking.

Ya, I took the sleeve out. I could not find any burrs or any loose metal. Piston looked fine. It may even be the crank, just not sure. I have to assume the milling is off somewhere. Just not visable to the naked eye.

Thanks!

Will the motor spin with the head off, maybe theres a shim missing and the piston is hitting the head.

Yes the head was completely removed. AWhen I removed the piston sleave, this piston moved wihtout any problem. Once I put the leave back in, it started to have problems again. The shim spacing between the .26 and .21 were the same (at least from eyeing it).

I think it is down to the Sleave or the Piston milling. I am by no means any kind of expert on this at all. I tore that motor down as much as I could and looked it over, tested ideas. In the end, the motor will not turn.

Lets hope I can get some kind of help from Horizon. I just bought the Turmoil Pro (new) about a month ago. I had to wait until I purchased a radio and paint the body before I did much with it.

Thanks!
