What is a good fan and motor for the F 20 tiger shark?I like this jet But I have no idea what stuff would be good to install into it.Also where to buy it.

Yes its a first jet,I was hoping this could be mae a ducted fan jet,Thats why I was asking if any of you know what would fit and if it has enough thrust.

That's a Balsa plane which they state at almost 3lbs. Probably 4 or more once fully assembled as the weights are typically very optimistic. For a 1:1 ratio you would need a fairly powerful EDF FAN and higher KV motor. So you would need to look for an EDF capable of producing 3lbs or more of thrust. That will be quite an electric setup as this is an intermediate size which is not easy to find components for. Which fan you use depends upon the available mounting space and the power requirements. This would not be cheap. See: Click me! Nor would it be easy for a novice to fly. Did I mention that this would not be cheap? Consider instead putting a glow pusher engine into a Bobcat or electrifying a Falcon 25. Both will give you jet experience before you move up to EDF's. I electrified the Falcon 25 with a 600-700watt setup... and I also fly the Bobcat .52 with a .76 engine. Both are very fast planes set up this way.

I had a feeling this plane was to big and heavy for ducted fan with electric motor.But you think a Gas motor with a fan would work? Or this isnt practical and a Turbine is the recomended engine.

BVM and others produce Electric ducted fan systems that go all the way up to 12lbs of thrust. But given the weight of the plane you'll have a smaller range of options, which is why a DF system for it may not be cheap. Most of the DF glow engines are in the .91 range which is too big for this plane... you would have to stick with an electric. I doublt you could find a small enough turbine too. It would be nice to know the cross section measurements to establish the clearance for the DF system... Something like this would work with the right motor. It easily produces enough thrust... Click me! Check that site for other inexpensive DF units. While shipping is high ( it comes from HK ), you MORE than save on the cost of the items. Too bad that NP is not carrying a compatible DF unit and motor for that plane...

I think you mean well, opjose, but don't really know much about ducted fans... I have one of these, it's very nice. Same as the one sold by Airpower out of Taiwan for about a year now. It's made for 480 sized fans, that is, 70mm fans. It is known to fly very nicely on them. It won't be four pounds, and it won't need three pounds of thrust. It will go 100mph, from what I have seen. There are many different fan and motor combos, but if there were any I would stay away from, it's the Haoye ones being sold by United Hobbies. I don't know anybody who is flying any of them with any real success, they are poorly done copies of other people's fans. Contact EJF, or warbirds-rc, or someone like that, who will sell you a decent setup for the Wemotec Minifan 480 fan, and you should be good to go. And it won't be that expensive. Like $50 for a fan, $50 for the motor, $50 for the ESC.

Yup I plead ignorance here. I defer to your suggestions. I was hoping to give the OP places to look for inexpensive fan setups. ---- Now you are making this plane very interesting for me too.... So could you tell us what combo/components would be needed for this bird? And if you have the time, any links? THANKS!

I'd stay away from the Hobbycity stuff. You don't see anybody flying it... Go with the wemotec 480 and the HET Typhoon EDF motor. I flew a five pound plane on that, it got along just fine. Warbirds-rc is a good place to go. See what they are using to fly the HET planes, which are very similar to this one... The kit, have not had a chance to start, but some impressions: Excellent quality. The fuse is very light. The wings are foam, sheeted, and incredibly heavy for their size. The fuse is not. The wings have washout nicely cut into them, though. There is a gap at the front of the wings, they don't fit the fuse perfectly. Not such a big deal. I wanted one of these for a while, but Airpower wanted too much money for the. Nitroplanes had it for $99, it's a great deal for that...

No chance of retracts on a plane of this size right? What are you doing for the gear on yours?

You could certainly add retracts, but this plane is not retract-ready. Some have done it, though. It's hard to find really useable retracts in this size...they look good, but they don't hold up. To me, it's just not worth the hassle on a plane this size. Mine will use the provided fixed gear that comes with the plane.
