Here's the kit:

Here's the completed truck, just needed to zip-tie some of the loose wires:

It took 5 shims to get the servo up to the right height to clear the steering arm:

All together, and yes, a standard servo (TowerPro MG995) does fit the stock body, Jconcepts Illuzion, and Pro-Line CP body. The Crowd Please was the only one that touched the servo at all, but it still mounted just fine.

I'd highly recommend this conversion to anyone who's planning on running the MLST for any length of time. The steering is really solid, now, and I'm not worried about stripping out servo gears. I took it out in the snow/mud/grass last night and got it all muddy and wet and it ran great. I must have forgot to loc-tite one of the screws, though, so I lost a screw from a steering arm. Easy fix and now it's back to the way it should be.

It is a good kit no question, but here is my problem with the Exotek kit.

Look at what you paid $85 for. A carbon fiber chassis plate, a carbon fiber top, A machined servo mount, steering bellcranks, some standoffs and some screws.

The kit costs about $25 in material and they sell it directly for $85 (without distributor markup even!). That kit should be $40 tops:

Carbon fiber chassis plate $10
Carbon fiber top plate $5
Servo mount $10
Steering Bellcranks $10
Standoffs $3
Hardware $2

I would 100% buy an Exotek kit for $40. I refuse to pay $80.

The kit looks great on your truck, I just wish they would sell it with a more realistic 60-70% markup instead of their insane almost 500% markup they are asking.

True, I fought myself over spending the $85 for it. However, the cost of replacing those servos is about $40 each time. Yeah, they are making a killing on them, assuming they've recouped their R&D costs, but it should save me some money and headaches in the future. I'm NOT going to be buying it for the other 2 MLST's I own, unless the cost comes way down.

[:D] i made a plate to mount a standard servo out of a old plastic battery cover. i just need a traxxas servo horn and a small piece of threaded rod for it to be finished. so, the conversion will cost me less then $10

itll work good for my mlst, which is stock. i guess that with the speeds of a brushless system it would be worth it to pay for the exotek.
i had 1 servo die, which would have been $25 to replace. but i think the 2nd one would have failed some time soon. that would mean spending another $25. the duel servo setup was the only thing i didnt like about the mlst. now that ive fixed that problem, the truck should be even better.

Looks sweet! I never had a problem with my servos, but that is a nice looking truck right there.

ekimusman2 -> RE: My Exotek Mini-LST (pics) (3/13/2008 8:43:55 AM)

i'm with dale on the price....i went with the graphite losi chassis because it was so much cheaper and looked more durable IMHO, but if the exotek was the same price, i def woulda gone with the exo so i could throw a spektrum in there.

either way, your truck looks AWESOME.

WisPete -> RE: My Exotek Mini-LST (pics) (3/13/2008 3:20:22 PM)

I had (and still have) a Spektrum receiver in there. With the Losi CF top plate and single brushless, it fit just fine in the same location it's at right now.

Edit: Just realized, you make have been talking about the Spektrum servos?

raptor 8 -> RE: My Exotek Mini-LST (pics) (3/13/2008 3:35:28 PM)

I bought two exoteck's and love em.

danieln -> RE: My Exotek Mini-LST (pics) (7/14/2008 8:47:05 PM)

Hi, nitrosportsandrunner

Well done. Anybody can buy $100 mod but not everybody can do the same with $10 !

I want to use your design for a single servo setup but I cannot understand it because of the picture resolutios.

Could you please, please repost some better quality pictures, especially the underneath setup.
I have 2 LST to fix ....

Thx
daniel

HeliStyle -> RE: My Exotek Mini-LST (pics) (7/14/2008 9:12:10 PM)

all markups are at least 75 percent of what the material cost, look at the price of gas for your car, its marked up and taxed alot more then its orignal gas, when we haven't even refinded or found the 75 percent still in canada

peelin_out -> RE: My Exotek Mini-LST (pics) (7/14/2008 10:58:51 PM)

nice stuff there... I am getting rid of one of my LSTs but am going to use the sale $ to get this kit for the other one. :)

HeliStyle -> RE: My Exotek Mini-LST (pics) (7/15/2008 1:01:13 AM)

it deff looks really nice
