I thought we could post our experiences with engines, when they taught us a lesson because we were, uh, stupid. Here I go!

Title: Uh, are the screws tight?

The setup: I screwed my .46 FX to a 1x4 to test fire it, since the last time it ran it, it was at full throttle flying into concrete! (I think the plane (Avistar) took the brunt of it on the nose gear, since the prop was in 1 piece. The firewall decided it no longer wanted to be a part of the plane!)

Everything was going fine until: I tried to shut it down. I closed the throttle, but it didn't shut down, just ran bad. So, I decided it might be best to pull the gas line. That is when I noticed that the back plate was loose! So that was where the air was coming from...

Lesson learned: Check everything! I never tightened it properly when I disassembled it after the accident. If I took a few extra seconds... Thankfully, this did not happen in the air. At least I was able to put the after run oil in all the right spots!

So many times I have wondered why the heck am I losing power! Then I check the glow plug and find it loose. It's always the last thing I check. You think I would have learned by now

Ever hear a funny noise coming from the front of your engine and then find your prop loose? Done that too!

...the time I bought and engine for a car (Force .12), break in went perfect, first two races were perfect, then it just wouldn't run right. Everyone figured it to be an air leak. I sealed it but didn't have any luck. Now the engine was running at 320*, which is about 100* over what's recommended! I sent it in and they replaced the piston and sleeve, and all the seals. Still wouldn't run right. I put it away for about a year. Then I discover that the low end needle wasn't being pulled out of the jet when throttle wa applied. Result, rich at low throttle, lean as heck at full. Its still sitting somewhere in my room...somewhere.
