harryfish -> RE: my first drag car (3/15/2008 12:23:52 AM)

hey any tips are welcome... i want to run lipo eventually
any idea how fast this will go?
with a 12t, 6 cell 3600, stock 81 tooth & 24p gear
what's a good pinon gear to run?
thanks for any info

Hardin Valley Magic -> RE: my first drag car (3/16/2008 4:10:16 AM)

Cool single gear no trns. should be fun. [sm=thumbs_up.gif]

harryfish -> RE: my first drag car (3/16/2008 7:25:06 AM)

did a test run today its to slow for me
whats better a mamba 6700 system
or the novak BL 3.5 system?
thanks

harryfish -> RE: my first drag car (3/20/2008 5:27:13 AM)

hey guys, plz let me know what BL motor is best for drag... 4600 5700 6900 7700

thanks

nitroking21 -> RE: my first drag car (3/20/2008 5:46:58 AM)

Hey Bud!!! Run the 7700 mamba max, on a 4 cell lipo setup. That should give you a hand full

Mudgy -> RE: my first drag car (3/20/2008 9:55:24 AM)

dude get rid of those plugs....Tamiya plugs melt in a touring car!!
Use Deans or Traxxas plugs for your battery connection, even for the motors so you can quick change 'em.
Hi amps = hi temp in any connector. You want max volts to the motor, no resistance in the conductors is a must. the battery will have its own internal resistance, plus you're losing in copper losses, back EMF,hysteresis, etc. all from the motor. It's an Electrical law, can't get around it, just need to know how to minimize it....Zero resistance connectors is a good start :-)

harryfish -> RE: my first drag car (3/21/2008 1:42:50 AM)

hey, just what i wanted to hear. i already order the the mamba system with the 7700 motor.
but then found the specs for all the motors, to find out the 5700 has 60+mph top speed and and the 7700 has 50+mph.
i guess its because of the higher cell count? any ideas...
so that's what my plan was 7700 with two 2 cell lipo 2200 = 4 cell at 4400
will that be faster then the 5700 with those batts?

thanks

sxcurtin -> RE: my first drag car (3/21/2008 8:59:13 PM)

dude rip out that motor. on that gearing it woulnt last any length or have the torque to get a good speed. get the velineon motor and any esc you want.
the velineon motor could be geared as high as you want without any major problems. ive seen it geared 40 60 a few times.
if i were you id get a mamba max esc so you can tune every aspect of it. thats just my opinion.

sxcurtin -> RE: my first drag car (3/21/2008 9:00:27 PM)

nice car by the way. and change the connectors.

nitroking21 -> RE: my first drag car (3/25/2008 3:38:52 AM)

right on bud

justinep -> RE: my first drag car (4/6/2008 3:21:12 AM)

Do I spy the old Bolink spur gear?!!? Get rid of it, it is a soft plastic and you will strip it in 3 passes. I know because my Bolink went through 2 of them and finally switched to Robinson Gears. Not sure if this applies but, I have the old Bolink Econorail Dragster and my gearing was 24/81 under a 10t handwound motor, 12 cells (2000 mah). I plan on taking her back out and throwing one of my brushless units in her.

Your drag looks nice... lets us know how the set powerplant runs!

harryfish -> RE: my first drag car (4/6/2008 5:37:40 AM)

hey thanks mang, do you have any picks of your rail?

and can i see the gearing set up that your talking about?

did you custom make your pinion?

cheers

justinep -> RE: my first drag car (4/6/2008 6:01:02 AM)

This is the only pic I got.. sorry. I did not custom make the gears (that would be ALOT of work), I just have a million pinions to choose from (spurs too) from 20 years in the hobby.

Got to love the left-over plates on the green couch, lol!

Cool pics, just pay a little attention to detail so the whole image looks clean and does not spoil the background.

you can run 2 lipo''s but make sure you wire them correctly. you''ll have the positive from one and the negative from the other going to the esc, then you''ll have the positive from one lipo going to the negative from the other lipo. that would make it a 4 cell pack (14.8v).

not sure on gearing for your chassis as it wasn't made to go as fast as you're planning, but with that setup in different chassis use 11 pinion 66 spur (32 pitch gears) with a rear tire size of 2.95" diameter and 1.95" wide.

hey thanks for reply, sounds like you know what your talking about [8D]

here's a pic of my lipo set up.

its not what you described but will it work?

can you post pic of the set up your describing?

and the bolink can't handle this system?

can i ask why? and can i make a chassis that will, with the rear end and front end of the bolink?

i'm also having issues with it stuttering is that a batt thing?

thanks mang

justinep -> RE: my first drag car (4/18/2008 3:03:47 AM)

your batteries are wired for parallel (which is what you wanted I believe.... 2xs the Mah not the Voltage, correct?. If it was series there would be a jump wire connecting the connectors neg to neg and pos to pos in series to the final deans connector.

You can try many different gearing options.... My bolink is now equipped with a 20/76 gearing, 4s lipo, 3500kv BL, Mgm 9032 esc.

I don't think you are gonna have issues running this car as described. Just remember, these cars are designed to launch hard and missle to the 132 mark. You will ifnd that you will be doing alot of testing and troubleshooting finding the right weight balance, gearing etc

Your stuttering... is it a "glitch" issue with your radio gear or a stuttering issue as in your car is doing a put put put stutter before getting full juice. If its the latter I would check your motor wires and then gear it down a bit.

Hope this helps a bit

nitroking21 -> RE: my first drag car (4/25/2008 2:23:04 AM)

This is just me... But the guys hitting the big numbers are running the wire Diff. Run neg to pos on one side of the lipos the other end of the lipos!! Run pos to pos going into the ESC same for Neg to the ESC....

discocomedy -> RE: my first drag car (9/24/2008 9:18:41 PM)

I like[8D] How did it do?
