i'm looking for a top notch charger that can fast charge, and balance. i also want it to do both a123 and lipo batteries, and i want it to not only have balance capabilities, but also a single +/- connection for a simple deans hookup. what are some good options? i'm thinking under $200, but budget will be looked at depending on what i like. also important part. the largest packs ive made have been 6s packs, so at least able to do those. i really don't think i'll build anything bigger, although i do run 12cell in one car with 2 6cell packs.

Go to fmadirect.com and look at CellPro10.

1-10S LiPoly and A123 . Charge rates up tp 10 amps. I have one and using a 12 volts source it will charge 3S A123 at 10 amsp. 4S at approx. 9.5 amps. 5S at approx. 8.8 amps.

Built in balancer .. Note must be used with balancing, can not be used with main leads only.

$190

you can also find what you want on chargery.com, 1010B is for 1-10S lipo/li-ion/liFe(a123 cell), 1-27S nimh/nicd, 2-36V Pb battery, Built-in cell balancer, charge, discharge, fast charge, storage, cycel and monitor program make it do anything. up to 10A or 200w for charging power, the body is 140*98*25. connect the battery to the balance port and main leads to balance and charge, only connect the battery to the main leads to do what you want to do except balancing.

i had been really wanting the cellpro, until i seen that it'll only charge through the balancing ports. i know it shouldn't be a problem, but if i picked up a battery w/a different balancer, or through together a battery w/out a balancer and i was waiting to get a balancer shipped, i won't be able to charge at all. just seems like an incovience i shouldn't have to ever come across.

what about the hyperion 1210 and 610? seems like the 610 is the better of the two for my application. do they hold beans against these two suggestions?

I agree that balancing should be an option and not mandatory. My guess is that FMA is concerned with product libility issues. Someone charges a battery with charger set to wrong cell count ,starts a fire and sues the charger's manufacture. I believe that is why they insist on using balancing leads as charger uses these to detect / set cell count.

I do not own or have first hand experience with any hyperion chargers but they seem to be good. IMO neither Hyperion or FMA have the greatest customer support but then that is just my opinion.

Which is why I ahve said for years that chargers need to be listed per max. watts ouput. They also should list max. output at 11 volts input as this is what a Pd can be pulled down to. Actually a Pb can be used down to 10.5 but why split hairs.
