Dave, yes knee banging time will be at the San Antonio Float Fly in April, thanks Jim, it must be the picture, 14in. from the bottom of the wing to the top of the floats.

It looks great. Interesting project as well.

May I ask why you put it so high off the floats? The normal "rule of thumb" is that the top of the floats should be 2 or 3 inches below the bottom of the propeller arc. With an 18 inch propeller and a 10 inch cowl, that would put the floats 6 or 7 inches below the bottom of the fuselage. I would think that putting them 14 inches below the fuselage (19 inches below the thrustline), as you have them, would create some pretty severe trim issues.

Kinda like flying a twin with a dead engine in knife-edge.

JIM, Thanks for the imput, the desgin was done by Sea Commander for this airplane, I will fly her and make changes as needed. I am flying a 24x8 prop on the satio 450, may have to change after the first flight.

Is that the 97" GBY? I was thinking in terms of the 82" version. I'll have to revise my numbers. 12" cowl and 24" prop, means the "rules of thumb" would have the top of the floats about 10" below the bottom of the fuselage. That is closer to your 14" but I would still anticipate a significant change in the elevator trim vs. the wheeled version. I hope you will let us know how it works out.

Yes it is the 97in. model, i am sure i want be doing any knife edges with all the knee action going on at first. I will update after the flight. Thanks again for the imput, it sure made me go back and take a second lookat everything.

Hi again, thanks to Jim and JRF for the heads up, just got and email for Ryan at Sea Commander, we had a comunications glitch and I am now moving the plane 5in. down closer to the floats, puts it right on JRF's numbers. Thanks again for the heads up.

be careful of the wood prop, they DO NOT like water sprayed on them, erodes the tips away. Use a prop made out of the same stuff as an APC or Master Airscrew.
I've had carbon props have the epoxy eroded away from the back of the blades in a very short time.

Thanks Mogman, Just used the wood for breakin and flying off land, have the new one for water, learned that during the years of flying my MaxAir Drifter Ultralight on floats.
