Ok.....maybe yours had high wingloading dependant on what excessive stuff you might have put in them. My ME-109 has retracts as well as onboard glow and again, its 5 pounds.

Looking at the specs on Kyosho's site for the p-40, the wingloading is 22.4oz per sq/ft(or 34 dm2) not 30+ oz per sq/ft
Even grossly overweight at 7 pounds, its still only 28. AT 6.5 pounds, its only 26. Absolutely fine for this size warbird. If you want low wingloading, get an Extra 300 or an Edge 540.
Now, not sure what retracts you put in your P-40, but unless you put in heavy CJM pneumatics, then your overall weight should not be anywhere close to 7 pounds.

Like I said, my Kysoho Corsair weighs over 9 pounds. Its wingloading is 36.6 oz per square ft and it flies excellent and shows no bad habits. If you stalled the plane, then you simply got it too slow. Warbirds are not pattern planes. You fly them, not glide them.

I flew my Kyosho Me 109 with an evolution engine, the one the PTS planes come with, I think it was. like a .45. In any case the plane flew great. Right up until I got to jaw jacking with a friend during take off, and kept full up on the elevator. She jumped straight up when she got a little ground speed, stalled, and cartwheeled a few times. The plane was a great plane and if I hadn't screwed it up, she would most likely still be my everyday bird. Kyosho makes a great product, and I'll be the first kid on my block with their new FW 190!

A few questions guys. I've just ordered my Kyosho Spitfire 90. I will be converting it to electric using an AXI 5330/24 motor (about 2KW or 3 HP).

I would like to use a scale 4 bladed prop, which works out to about 20" diam and would like to use the excellent GAP Solo props. But I am concerned about the prop. and motor weight. A Solo 4 blade 20" prop. weighs in at 363 grams (13oz). The motor weighs 652 grams which is already a bit over typical 1.0cuin or 16cc gas engines.

Spitfire models, including this one, are known to be typically nose heavy and nose-tippy to start with, so I am reluctant to add a 13oz prop. to the front end.

Does anyone have any comments on this amount of weight for the prop?

Thanks.

Well....usually...at least an actual scale representation of a Spitfire(along with ME-109's), are more tail heavy and require nose weight. That is at least regarding the KMP and other higher dollar versions. Most ppl had to add about a 1 pound of dead weight up front due to KMP making the plane real close to scale outline. Now....for the Kyosho....I DO have this plane...but, I am sure its not as close in scale. So, you may be right that it might be designed to offset that tendency some.
So....13 oz...well, you can move the rx's pack pretty far back if needed and also place your flight batteries behind the cg line or relatively close. There's a good deal of room in the fuse, so you should be able to make it work.

Could you please comment on how the Kyosho model deviates from true scale dimensions? Thanks.

It looks like a Spitfire and is good enough in that regard. Actually looks better then the H9 Spitfire, but neither are scale dimenionally speaking. Most manufacturers will enlarge the wing a little, make the rudder slightly bigger and extend the nose just a hair to make it easier to fly, balance, etc. KMP/YT doesnt do this and so adding a ton of weight up front is usually mandatory.
With a light saito 125, i didnt have to add any weight up front to get it to balance, thus at the very least indicating the nose is longer then scale(as well as probably having heavier thicker wood up front for weight distribution....but...no one would know at the field unless you say something).
Its one of the better looking ARF spitfire so no worries that its not true scale....it is better then fun scale...its a good sport scale representation.

Thanks for your feedback guys. I do plan to super detail it, so its a pity it's not true scale. I also plan to outfit it with one of our own ModelSolutions of Canada Ltd. SFX5 sound systems with a speaker in each wing. These sound sytems also have lamp flasher outputs for guns, so I'll be adding utra-bright LEDs and adding scale gun cowlings and gun blisters.

Has anyone flown theirs yet ? I've bought one but not built it yet due to no funds as yet for the engine and radio gear ! Also building an SE5A at the moment and don't want to be distracted from that until its complete, so the Spit is tucked away in the loft as an incentive !
