Got a question... Could you take a little time out of your busy schedules and give me ideas on how to set up my chargers into a neat configuration. I followed Keith B's setup and had a very good start thanks to him, but now the double sided Velcro is coming off of the box and things are getting pretty ugly and twisted. Let me give you an idea of my equipment: Thunder Power 1010C x 2, Sirius charger (for radio) x 1, TP 210 balancers x 2, IOTA 55, RigRunner buss box, and Triton charger x 1 (For emergencies and helping fellow fliers). It all fits into a Lowe's $24.95 aluminum tool box but, like I said earlier, it's coming apart and isn't the prettiest. I had attached the industrial strengthed velcro type material to the inside liner and that worked for a season, but now, it's just tearing the liner away from the box. Just some ideas would help get my brain jump started. Maybe, a different box? Thanks, in advance, for your help. Use Honda Generator for power or 110V plugged into the Iota, if needed...

Im putting one together now..heres a start. Bolted the Iota in using 1/4 carriage bolts. I used a couple of aluminum tabs and 8 screws to hook the two TP1010s together, velcro'd to the top of the power supply. Used a thinner piece of foam on the box top so it just compress's on the chargers. Need to get a board in there now to distribute the power.

Thanks a bunch for the advice and the pics. I use the Rigrunner from Powerwerx for spreading the power around. My Iota is mounted just like yours, but the 1010C's are mounted in the space over to the side of the IOTA, not on top of it. I use the lid to mount the 2 x 210 balancers, Triton and Sirius chargers. Maybe I'm trying to get too much into this box. It fit before though ! I especially like the carriage bolts so it looks neat from the outside and won't scratch up anything around the box. How long were they? Also, do you have any problems with cooling by covering up the IOTA with the 1010c's, or do you just pull them out and set them on the side while in use.

Also, I forgot to mention I'm using a cooling fan (DC computer fan) to help cool batteries, but only needed with the big pattern batteries after a sequence flight.

The bolts are about an inch long. So far I just leave the chargers velcroed to the top, there is room for the fan to circulate air but I'll find out this summer. Need something to keep the lid from blowing closed.

I could get the sirius and triton in there too as it is now. The balancers tuck away at the end of the power supply, the packs I use they hook directly to the pack, I havent found extensions for the balancer leads yet.

Im looking at the rig runner. This way the leads to the charger run about 100 degrees and the stacked bannana plugs run 115 degrees when Im charging 2 packs at 5 amps.

I got this set up idea from Bill A. in St. Louis. Aluminum case from Harbor Freight at $29. Iota is mounted in the bottom and a computer fan is mounted below the charger and draws air from inside the box and blows it onto the bottom of the charger. Probably not needed, but keeps the charger cool. The balancer is just mounted with velcro to the lid.

Here's mine with 2 chargers. the 2 top leads hanging off the left go to the batteries (one from each charger). The bottom lead hanging off the left goes to the Iota 55. I've taken my FP balancers out - they normally sit in the case. You can see my Astro blinky balancers on the bottom left. The Iota and bunker for the batteries are separate.

Thank you very much for sharing your ideas. I'd really like to get everything into one box. I've had it all in there before, but it just didn't look good with all the wires zip tied all over the place. I'll go back and look at every thing again. I think what I really need to know is how to fasten these things directly to the box without the velcro stuff falling apart a few weeks later.

If you go with a TP charger then you can get everything in... I also pack my lid in foam and that keeps everything in place when shut.

I took the screws out of the side of the thunderpower chargers and used some longer screws to attach some brackets. You could do the same thing with some 3/4 light aluminum angle then screw those to the box and would have a positive mount for the TP1010's.

(I wouldn't put longer screws in that hold the feet on, but the screws that hold the ends on are trapped in an extrusion so you should drive into a circuit board.)

Im getting ready to build mine too....Ive been putting it off for too long.
Ill post the pics once Im done. Im going to be putting muffin fans in the case to cool off batteries and the power supply just as extra cooling.

Im going to use my harbor freight case like Ual has above.
If you havent gotten one of those topload cases like that you gotta try them. You couldnt pry mine from my dead fingers. Right now I am using it for a flightbox...soon to be modified to be a flightbox/charging box.

I layed out the plans of how Im going to build it.
When finished that one single case should hold the following.

1 mil-spec muffin fan
1 Multiplex charger
1 power supply
2 bottles of epoxy
1 bottle thin ca
1 bottle thick ca
1 bottle of gorilla glue
1 screwdriver set
1 ball link pliers
1 butane soldering iron
1 tube solder
1 set of allen wrenches
1 xacto knife
1 tube of silicon lubricant
1 tachometer
1 laser thermometer
1 needlenose pliers
1 shears
1 jewelers hammer
1 pair of hemostats
1 Futaba 9C transmitter
assorted small parts.

Ive got the layout done, I just need to get some plywood to build the internal guts of the thing.
All the stuff will be held securely in its own spot. I also figured out a way to plug the box into an outlet without having cords going every which way. Its gonna be the slickest e-box ever!!!

Ill start posting pics as soon as I start building it. Im telling you....you guys are gonna want one BAD!!

Ok....heres the first set of pictures....

First I cut openings in the side of the box for the power receptacle, and the muffin fan.
Next I installed the muffin fan and the fan guard into the box, and the power receptacle.

Soldered and heatshrinked all the connections.

The fan is a 115V muffin fan, so it can run right off the power outlet. You can get these fans from radio shack for about 20 bucks or so. Mine is a military surplus fan that was picked up at a flea market.

Once everything was soldered up and connected. I plugged in my box to check that everything is working....

Everything works fine....

Now to install the mounts and gear locations.
