Hopefully the mods won't delete this. I am trying to figure out why I can't get my camcorder to load the video on my computer. I have a panasonic MINIDV camcorder, and when I bought it the guy at Sears told me that I would be able to download the video from my camcorder to my computer. I have 2 jacks on the camera one is a USB and the other says DV. I have a cord for the USB part, but all I can do is view the video on my computer screen. There is no way for me to record it or download it to my computer. Should I be using the DV port instead? The reason I ask is because this would make for better footage for bashing, but it won't do me any good if I can't get the video to my computer. Any info would help, and I figured since a lot of people on here do stuff with video I might be able to get me some help.

no, it doesn't ask me what I want to do with it. And when I look in my computer it does have the drive in there, but all it does is let me view the video on the computer. That is it, won't let me do anything other than view it.

I don't know if you caught the other post or not, so I will write it again just in case. When I explore the drive it just does the same thing, all I can do is view the video. Should I be using a cord in the DV slot, or in the USB slot? I would have to go get a cord for the DV slot so if that is what I need to do it will be a little while before I can try that.

If your Recording to MiniDV tape then you'll Need a Firewire to get in on your Computer.......If your Recording to a SD memory card it should Go on to your Computer with the UBS wire......

ok I figured out what the firewire cable is, but from what I understand it is basically a highspeed USB cable.

It's like this, http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/campaigns/campaigntemplate.asp?CampaignID=233 You'll need one that Will plug into your Cam on one End and your Computer on the other.......Easy way to do it is Take the cam with you to Bestbuy/Staples whatever Stores Close by and Ask them for a Firewire to get you Vid's from the Tape to your Computer......

ok, I don't think this will work. I am using a USB cable right now, and I am not even given an option to save the video. I think I will go to best buy though, and take my camera and ask them what I would need to get it to work.
