Today I have started cutting out the elevator. The balsa for the hinges will be cnc cut out balsa. For the controlhorns I will make a reinforcement to glue in from hard balsa also cnc cut in a long triangle shape.

When glueing the balsa for the rudder hinges in the fuse use Sellotape on the outside to protect the fuse for glue spots.
The balsa is glued with UHU plus. Use masking tapen to press all together, do not use clamps.

When mounting the stab in the fuse slide the stab sideways in the fuse. Sand if necessary. Use measure tools to see if the stab is 90 degrees with the vertical fin. With the final glueing we will check the stab with the wing mounted. Now you can see if the stab is in the right position without glueing. On the last picture you can see the stab is 90 degrees but has to move 1mm to the left.
Mark the side where to sand see picture 004a. Several times you wil have to fit and sand where necessary till the stab is 90 degrees with the vertical fin. Later we will measure of all is OK from the top. First mount the wing 90 degrees on the fuse and when OK measure the distances between LE wing and LE stab.

The elevator:
Draw the sizes for the elevator on the stab with a pencil, use the 1:1 size printed stab.
Watch the middle part that stays in the fuse. That part is longer than the hinge line of the elevator.
Start with cutting the both ends of the elevator with a fine saw. Then cut with a sharp knife the elvator out.
When the stab fitting is alright we can cut the elevator and glue the balsa for the hinges. The balsa parts are cnc cut with cutted sleeves for the hinges. Glue the two parts with Elmers white or Titebond II. Remove all dust and tape the balsa with masking tape.
The hinges will be glued later with ZAP hinge glue. Remove some wood for the middle part of the hinge to get a very small gap.

We have seen a lof of fast Jets !! It was a great day with sometimes rain.
I am mounting the wing and thinking how to make the spar for the wingrods.
The balsa on the elevator are glued. Now I have to draw the triangle plywood for reinforcement for the controlhorn.

The 6mm carbon wingrods are cut and the wing has been carefully drilled (foam). The wingrodformer has the cnc holes and has been glued earlier to the wing. So tape the fuse on the wing front, mark the wingrods and use the cnc drillguide to drill the holeas for the wingrods. Later the wingrods will be glued in the wing. Now I will have to draw a wingrodspar for in the fuse.
The next model I will first glue in the fuse the wingrod spar and then the firewall.

The wing is taped very tight to the fuse on the front and on the back. In the fuse a cut out is made for a tunnel. For the tunnel I will use thin plywood to prevent dirt will come in the fuse. Now I can use the hole for my wingrod tool. I have made two fuselage formers for the carbon wingrods. The formers are 3mm plywood. The formers are put over the carbon wingrods and are glued to the bottem of the fuse with UHU plus. On the back I will use a former in the cowl to keep down the wing and the belly pan. The best is one thick bolt or when that is not possible I have to mount two smaller bolts on the sides. I will fit all in a few minutes. Some pictures:

The parts are coming together as a real plane !! For me it is important that all fits well with a shiny well done paint job and good building instructions. Now it is easy to glue in the stab. But first the stabspar. The most work has been done now, I have to do several small jobs but every part takes time. Soon I can start with the paint job. I think the plane looks like a real Mustang racer with the boom long as possible to get a stable flyer. Now I am looking for the paintnumbers for the Strega.
Take a look at the Strega 45:

Yesterday I have started with the wing bolt construction. On card board I have drawn the sizes and cut it out to fit in the fuse.
Drawn in a CAD programm and after cutting them the cnc cutted formers were ready. Sand with 80 or 100 gritt the fuse before glueing with UHU plus. Use your wifes clamps to get the stuff together:

Now I could not work on the fuse for many hours I started with the retracts. Remove the foam first use a sharp knife and pull out the foam. Start with the two longest und pull out the 3mm for these. Then pull out the foam for the horizontal retract former. So 3mm deep.
The less deep longer one is for the front and the other one for the back. Mount small insert nuts in the retract plate and glue them with ZAP pink. Glue the three parts at 90 degrees together in the right way watch the positions with ZAP green an pink.

On request and because it is better I have made the top of the retracts flush with the wing top by using a 1,5mm plywood former around the retracts. So this former has the same thickness as the retract mounting plates.
I have made a small mistake with the first cnc file for cutting out the retracts. I forgot the belly pan, I am glad Danny noticed it before glueing in the retracts. So I have made a new cnc cutting file for only cutting the retracts out of the wing over the wrong cut out places. I will have to use some filler but it is hardly a problemm. I only had a problemm I had to do that again.
