I recently purchased my first gasser, a WH extra 50CC I have a da 50 installed and have been thinking about the power system for awhile and cannot come to a decision.
I really like the new A123 packs fromeco sells but I want to have dual redundancy on the rec.
I am positive I will use A123 on the ignition but im not sure how many mahs will be needed for decent flight times.
My question is, is there a device that will allow both batteries to be separate in normal operation but if one should fail it will switch to the good battery to save the plane.

If there is a wrong way or right way to setup a 50cc by all means let me know. If some of you could share some pictures of your setups with me it would be appreciated.

Battery redundancy at the receiver is not necessary for these planes. However, if it makes you feel better it's has frequently been done. As for using the A123 cells, the only true requirement with this type of battery is having and using a charger that has cell balancing and a means of determining how much capacity was used per flight. If you know what you are using per flight you can easily determine the rough number of safe flights you can make on a battery. That's actually true with any battery type.

Tom can set you up with the correct components for your installation. He's been quite the leader in researching the use and ability of A123 cells. Typically they use very little capacity per flight. Even 35% planes are only using between 150 and 200 milliamps per flight. Send him an e-mail with a request for information.
