passinuby -> Venom lipo problems? (3/18/2008 4:05:10 AM)

I have a new Venom 11.1 V, 4000 mAH, 3s Lipo that I'm running in a Traxxas 2 wheel drive Brushless Rustler Stadium Truck. I'm using a Triton Charger with Balancer.
Will my truck shut down when the battery is at its max output?
Can I keep charging the battery even though I don't run it very long to top off the battery?
How will I know when cells are going dead on Lipo batteries?

Thanks so much for the input....

I just replied to your other thread, but I will reply to this one also..

First, these posts are in the wrong forum and I doubt you will get the best exposure to your questions.. ;)

Now -

Will your truck shut down? Most likely not.. However, if you are drawing more amps from the pack than the pack is ready to take, you are going to destroy said pack..

Can you "top off" your lipos? Of course.. However, if you are going to store them for a lil' while, it is best to store them "half full." Around 3.8v a cell..

How will you know your cells are going dead? You need to purchase a couple items, if you are serious about running electric equipment.. These items will help you save money in the long run.. You need a voltmeter and a wattmeter.. Both of these can help you very much..

I am not very familiar with the Triton - does it show voltage of each cell while charging/balancing?

No this charger does not show the voltage of each cell it just tells me the total mAH put into the battery and the time it takes to put it in. I'm buying a new charger for my lipo batterys. Any suggestion?

What amps should I be charging this battery at?

How long will these batteries hold their charge after sitting up?

How will I recognize when the battery is going bad?

What forum should I be asking these questions in?

Thanks for your help man. I'm very appreciative.

Suggestions for a charger.. There are many out there.. I like the ones we carry, however, we have a new one coming to market that will help you, as if you are going to be running around 4000mah packs, you'll need a better amp output for charging..

You should charge your packs at 1C of the capacity.. For your 4000mah, you'd want to charge it at 4amps.. Some brands - including ours - allow for 2C charge rates, some do not.. I charge almost all my packs at 2 to 2.5C..

They will hold their voltage for a pretty good while.. Months.. ;)

How can you tell it's going bad? With a lipo you can get a couple indications.. A swollen pack, a "smelly" pack, diminished run time and power output are all signs of a dying pack..

What forum? You may want to find the r/c car forum or batteries.. This forum is specifically for "Common Sense" batteries, but I don't helping those who don't run CSRC products..

Let me know if I can help any..

Check out the link in my sig, it has some great info.. :)
