Status: offline 		Nick1881 - For the OS91 FX - Bisson makes a pitts muffler specially designed for the Ultimate with the exhaust chamber shifted back slightly and 70° exhaust ports (http://www.bissonmufflers.com/en/muffler.html?mufflers::listing_id=114049Model 4092).

This configuration allows it to fit elegantly inside the Ultimate's cowling avoiding unnecessary cutting/hacking.

Well i have been away for a very long time for multiple reasons. Besides finals and getting a job, the biggest problem is that my computer broke so i have been without one until a few days ago.
Anyhow i have done alot and the plane is near completion i have some pictures that im going to post to show the progress i made. Sorry about it taking so long. Pictures posted later in the day

Status: offline 		Ok well its been a while but i have a few pictures here of the plane during the initial covering phase. its much further done now, with only the outplane struts, cowl, and canopy needing to be finished. so here are a few for now and ill put a few more up

Status: offline 		looks great Nick, I like the choice to use a three bladded prop....far more scale than the standard two blades. I have already purchased my prop so will have to stick with a wooden two blade zinger on mine Is that an aftermarket cowl/wheel pants/landing gear? If so what manufacturer?

I really like the 3 bladed prop as well but the dubro spinner is crap. Im going to wait a while and make her earn a tru turn aluminum 3 blade spinner. Anyhow the cowl, pants, and landing gear is all from fiberglass specialties(just google it). They are great, friendly people to deal with and from start to finish was like 13 days. (they make everything when you order it.) Another source is stans fiberglass or something but i called them a couple times and never got a person just an answering machiene and never got a call back.

Status: offline 		Thats good to hear Nick...I just ordered a cowl, LG and wheel pants from Fiberglass specialties! I was thinking of getting the extended bottom cowl for the bisson pitts I am using on my OS 120ax, but I don't like the side profile with the angular extensions built into the cowl, i think it ruins the stock lines of the design...rather have the pitts sticking out a little. Incidentally, Craig Schmidt sent me profile pics of all three cowls which I thought was great customer service. I half built my ABS cowl but as I am flying from a grass field, I need the stronger LG...so why not get the fiberglass gear while I'm at it to save on shipping!!! Either way its not a cheap mod, but I am sure it is worth it!

I am sure these pics will help future builders!

I felt the same way about the extended cowl, it just ruined the side profile view. I had mine out taxiing around in the yard last weekend without the wheel pnats and cowl because there not finished. ANyhow im using the 91fx 2 stroke and i had run 2 tank through it and when i got it out there taxiing i couldnt help it anymore. I grabbed the top wing held it verticle, gave it full throttle and it was pulling my arm up pretty good. The best part was i was using a 16x6 prop and i ran it really rich so i wouldnt hurt it. A 15x6 and eventually leaning it out and i think it should hover somewhere around 7/10ths throttle. Your plane ought to be insane with the 120, i was really contemplating the 120ax when i got the kit but i was afraid i would pull the wings off. But after having built the plane its pretty damn ridgid and i think youll be just fine, just dont dive it full throttle and pull up too fast haha

Status: offline 		Nick, yeah i think is probably is a little excessive in hindsight, the plane isn't as big as I thought it was! However, I know another in y build thread has used the 120ax and built the plane stock and has had a great few flights with it thus far. I have reinforced the wing joints with 4" wide fiberglass and much thicker wing strut tabs, larger nylon wing bolts (1 in front, two at the rear for the bottom wing), flying wires for rigid fin and stab, dual elevator servos and 133oz torque servos with a 6v battery. So that all said and done I hope that it is fine. But yes, full throttle loops and silly throttle management is something I will watch! I have a 15x10 prop for starters but will likely up that to a 16x8 zinger

If it is too much I may retro fit a 91fx in there but I doubt I will need to. I chose the 120ax due to cost...not much more than the 91!

Yeah it sounds like your gonna be fine and to be honest im going to see how it flys, buti was thinking i might put a 120ax on it haha. I want it to be able to pull up out of a tourque roll with good authority for when i get in trouble. (bound to happen when your flying in those attitudes) But then again i might save my money for my next project. I really want one of the greatplanes extra 330l kits, but they dont make them anymore andim having trouble finding one .(FU<K greatplanes for discontinuing all the good kits) Anyhow do you have any pictures of yours?

Status: offline 		Yeah man totally agree...looks like they bowing to market demand and giving everyone ARF's. I like building so ARF's ain't my bag, although the Aero Works YAK 54(90-120) looks cool and does the greatplane 1.60 sukhoi ARF (i wish that one came in a kit!!!).

Alot of people have told me that this isn't the greatest kit for 3D flying...who knows, I wanna try and see. If it won't hold a hover 100ft in the air then I won't bother trying 1ft off the ground either!

I like the extra 330s that great planes do as a kit, I haven't heard or seen the l before but I ain't that up with the play.

Check my build thread out....all progress to date is there with a tonne of pics!

Status: offline 		Well the reason i am away from my ultimate is because im in wisconsin right now. The reason im in hartford, wisconsin right now is because im am at a grass roots flight school. I got out here last saturday on the 31st of may and soloed in the cub on monday after 8 hours with my instructor( Steve Krog). Steve is a world renowed instructor and has been in sport aviation magazine several times. If anybody is intereseted in learning to fly he would be an awesome place to start. Anyhow they have some really neat **** at this tiny little airport and i thought i would share. The red and black airplane is a 1929 travelair and the orange plane is a late 20's BIRD. There is also a picture of the cub i am currently flying and using to get my private certificate.

Status: offline 		ok so im finally back from wisconsin and it was a blast. But it didnt take long for me to get back to work. I am nearing completion of this project and i only have a few things left.

1. Finish the cowl
2. Cover the struts
3. Install the canopy
4. Misc. odds and ends

So when i got back i started on finishing the cowl and it just needs to dry a little more and then tommorrow it will get buried in a clear coat. Hear are some pictures of the essentially finished cowl.
