Zip,
no problem and you will have no problem mounting the gear and pants on your plane. And the abs stuff is crap and goes to hell in just a few hours of flying. hope all goes well.

Ok everyone i put on a few decals and then burried everything in clear. It looks really good, but i might take a very very low abrasive steel wool to it and then spray one more coat over it to really smooth everything out.

Nice! I might do the same and put some clear over the decals. What muffler did you go with in the end Nick?

its the slim line Q series and i bought it before i got any imput from anyone else. It doesnt stick out to far but i think just the regular slim line pitts style would have needed less cut away then the "Q" series. But i have seen some of the bisson mufflers and they look pretty slim too. I dont know i wish i had all the options in front of me so i could have seen which one would have fit the best. I will say one thing about the "Q" series slimline and its about the sound this thing puts out. The actual volume of the muffler is pretty big so its puts a nice, nice deep sound out of the 91fx. Its a far cry from the high pitched sound my 46fx puts out. it actually sounds like a little baby gas engine.

Choice! Yeah the bisson looks to have good volume for a nice tone but i will save that judgement till I run the engine for break in. I anticipate it will stick out of the cowl abit more than yours. Will be a good comparison though as we both are using the same cowl and very similar physically sized engines.

If I got a nasty high pitched and loud exhaust tone from the bisson I WILL change the muffler I think, I like the low pitched gurgle

Yeah, I special ordered the Bisson #4092 40° pitts muffler for the Ultimate fro Tower ($44.99+shipping) and it fits perfectly under the cowling.
Have yet to run my 91FX in though, so I don't know about the sound issues.

well i madiened my ultimate this past weekend and all i can say is WOW!! it was so fun to watch this plane scoot around the sky. My first landing was sweet, it actually touched down tail wheel first. I wish i had gotten a picture f that. The engine did run a little hot inside the cowling but, hopefully i have that fixed. It got hot to the point where my engine quit, but it relly wasnt that big of a deal. I came straight for the runway and it touched down nice and smooth. I dont know where all this "Death" stick stuff came from. Maybe its because its fairly light with the two stroke instead of a big heavy four stroke? im going to have to weigh this thing because it feels awful light. anyhow it was GREAT and i will try to get some in flight pictures here soon.

Excellent! Glad to hear it went well!
I got the alu landing gear and wheel pants from Fiberglass Specialties as you suggested. Will be making the modif in the coming weeks. Can't wait to get that baby in the air!

well i flew again last night and it was great i moved my battery forward a tad and the cg is dead on. The motor is running great and pulling it through everything i can throw at it. I only have a phone camera but i was able to actually get one action shot of a landing. This is the only one that turned out so hear it is.

nick

p.s. dont mind the huge wheels, i threw them on because the grass im flying off of right now is a little thick. I have the correct size and wheel pants that will be going back on eventually when they cut the grass.

thanks leaf im very anxious to see you get yours done. Your really going to have a lot of fun. I flew again tonight and it was great, i did something i have never done before.(atleast not on a sim) I did a harrier at about 75 feet and then bumped the throttle and it started to hover!!! man it was cool, your 120ax is gonna be insane. My next pictures are going to be of the plane hovering hopefully. until then good luck on the rest of your build.

Nick,
I want to install my new aluminum gear and wheel pants on my Ultimate, but I have a couple of questions on how you did it.

How are the wheelpants mounted to the landing gear. What axle set-up did you use? There is a small inward dimple on one side of each wheelpant - is that used to locate the drill hole?

What keeps the wheel pant from rotating around the axle axis. With the pants installed on the wire gear - the wire fits into a shallow slot made in the pant which holds it in place at the proper angle.

Could you give a description, sketch or photo of how you did yours, please?

Sorry for the bother, thanks.

Hey zip,
No bother at all and ill take some pictures tommorrow and show you. to answer a couple questions:
-Yes the dimple is where you are going to drill the hole on the pant.
- To keep the wheel pant from spinning around the axle will be through it where you drill the hole, and then you can drill a small hole right above the axle(on the landing gear) for a number 2 screw. A piece of hard wood is epoxied to the inside of the pant and the screw goes through the hole on the lg and into the hardwood.

Once i take a few pictures it should really make it a lot easier to see what i did. Tuwood did a nice job on his, you might want to check out how he did it too. You might like his way better, but if i recall correctly it is similar if not identical to mine. But ill get some really good detail photos on here tommorrow evening.

A Sad day. I lost my Ultimate this weekend on take off. The fus is in great shape. The firewall broke in and only cracked the sides where it mounts. A good afternoon of work and that is fixed. For the wings that is another story. The tips are in good shape but the center foot of the wing is history. I called great planes they now has Goldberg. They don’t have and won’t have any wing kits fore it. They want $23 plus shipping just for a copy of the plans. So dose anyone know some one that has a wing kit, or has an extra set of plans.
