Hi gang, after my fourth flight today on my DA100 powered 102" Yak I landed with the outboard aileron horn broken at the point where it exits the aileron. This is the 3" 8-32 screw included in the accesories kit cut down and used as a horn. I wondered if this is a freak occurance and I only have to replace the one horn or if it is more common and I should redo all of them. Maybe with rolled steel screws or machine screws with a solid shank running out of the aileron. Thanks, Eric

i broke two of them (not at the same time)after several hundred flights and replaced them with a higher grade bolt. they lasted a long time but my flying finally got to them. haha!

Well I found 8/32 Stainless Steel threaded rod at my hardware store so I'll use that. It is much more expensive than the plated steel kind and looks much cleaner so hopefully it will have a better service life.

My flying field just banned gas planes and turbine jets on weekends in response to a complaint filed by the local homeowners. Our hours are also limited now, 8-4 during the week and 8-1 on weekends. All forms of competition and airshows are also canceled. This after local fields were closed in Stockton and Lodi last fall. People seem to have zero tolerance these days for anything they are not personally invlved in. So I guess there''s no big hurry to get my Yak finished, and get this, making the field electric only outside of those hours stated was shot down by the board who mostly only fly weekday mornings. (They are a bunch of old men who hate helicopters and 3D flying anyway). They belive the local homeowners will only be happy if they don''t even "see" model airplanes! Noise is not the only issue.....

man that sucks! pack up and move to kentucky we can still make some noise here. it''s sad that people won''t try to get along, they don''t mind wakeing us up early with leaf blowers and mowers but can''t stand to hear our planes in the afternoon.
