Hi, I"m just getting started on a new .60 sized Spitfire that I'm doing an e-conversion on. Wondering what you all think might be a good a123 setup.

I'm using the E-flite Power 60 motor with a castle creations 80 amp esc. The all up weight should come out around 9.5 pounds. I'm thinking that using
two 6s1p 2300 packs in parallel should put me in the right ball park. That would put me under what some guys are doing with Lipo's in similar sized mustangs (around 5000-6000 mAh) but I think that I'll get more usable capacity out of the a123's.

Any thoughts???

According to multicalc you will get a 7.22 minute flight time on a 17x10 prop at 37mph. I guessed a 60 in WS and 600 sq in wing.
At 34 oz/sq ft you are going to land hot.

wow, that was really nice of you to run those numbers for me... sounds like I'm on the edge of making a123 work for me and may still be better off with Lipos in this case. I'm ok with the hot landings since dragging those split flaps through the air should take a lot of heat off. It's the short run time you've calculated that bothers me. I was hoping I could squeeze 10-12 min out of this setup not 7.

hhmmmm..... back to the drawing board perhaps???


btw, where can I get a copy of the multicalc app you use and how did you arrive at the prop size and airspeed estimates??


sure is nice to have these forums to get in touch with people that know more about this stuff than me..


btw, I was planning on being around 9 lbs but I could not resist the aerosound rc sound system I bought for this ship.. it sounds exactly like a merlin and it is LOUD.
