I have just purchased a brand new JR 9303 2.4 radio with the 921 Recvr. This has been installed in my model and during the range check, this is what i get.

With the model on the ground and the TX antenna pointing directly at the model & the bind button pressed i get about 26 steps or so and then all 3 leds on the recvr turn off completely, with 1 of them intermittent.

However if i turn slightly and the antenna is now pointing parallel to the model, all 3 leds light up and now i can go upto 40-50 steps with all leds rock solid and control surfaces operational.

I then took a flight and the radio operated perfectly with no glitches whatsoever.

There appears to a be a "null" area in the propogation of the signal, which causes the LED's to go off when the aerial is directly pointed at the model.

My question is

Is this normal?

Status: offline 		Yes that is normal, which is why they always advise you to never point the transmitter antenna directly at the aircraft. Try tilting the antenna up to a vertical position and you should see an improvement.
