Airraptor - please do share your mods to the OS and/or Magnum engines. I'd be interested. I would like to stir up some .15 sized racing just for fun, and a decent engine that would be more readily available than old conquests, etc, would be welcome.

Have you ever run the OS CVA .15? How are they?

What about the NovaRossi .15's with the muffled pipe? Anyone ever run one of these?

I've run the OS15cva. Didn't seem to have more power than a sport 15. Maybe I was doing some thing wrong. Didn't spent much time with it. Had it on a 15 size pattern plane that met an early demise. I have a Nova Rossi 15 with the muffled pipe but never ran it. Planned on putting it on a Sig wonder but never got to it. My two Coxs were very strong but not up to my Rossi15

I know in Australia they fly planes that are essentially the same rule requirements as our old QM15 designs, but they use .21's with full tuned pipes. I've had a little correspondence with a guy in Australia, they use the Novarossi .21's. That's why I was asking about the .15's.

Do you have any pics of your .15 with the tuned muffler? I was at www.planethobby.com but the .15's listed as with the muffler had no pics associated.

Just wondering, how it would fit into some existing design planes I've got - an old Gager P63 and a couple of mid-wing Stingers.

Thanks,

most of the .15 in production now except the russian models all turn right around the same rpm. the cva is strong for stock but not worth 120 bucks when you could get two magnum .15 for that price. the cva will last longer though. i am building a new mustang now for one of my hot .15's and get some pics and speed runs in next week. have to work this weekend.

I don't have a picture at the moment but I'll see if I can take one and post it. The muffler is big. Probably over a foot long. Even though it's a tunned muffler it is full length rather than folded like many others.

I would suggest looking at another engine as well. I would not waste my time with a bushed engine though. Check this out or get a Nelson off of ebay. http://www.flycontrolline.com/Profi%20F2D.htm

I think this one might be better suited if its going to live in a QM-15.

Profi has been making world-class engines for many years. That Profi .15 looks like it would be a contender if QM were to be rejuvinated.

Yeah, I had looked at that Profi, too.

I seriously doubt if .15 sized racing will make a comeback, we're just putting together a couple for fun around here. This day and age I would think small electrics (gasp) would probably be more popular. I hate to say that, but it's probably true.

But, I miss the old QM15 event.

bushed engines are lighter and if getting the same numbers as a bearing one why run it. yes it may last longer but the plane will be faster with the amount of hp we have here.

Just for a point of reference - I used to run the Nelson .15 at about 27,000-27500 on the ground in the QM15 planes. The conquest was around 23K

The Novarossi looks like a stout case, doesn't it?

You'll have to let us know how well it runs. I better go order some parts for my conquest from MECOA, see if I can get it running this summer.

Thanks for sharing the pics!

From what I understand, the Profis have surpassed the nelsons in this class. They are the engine of choice for FAI CL combat. They would certainly be close. While the Conquests are very strong They had their time and it has passed. The modern choices have more power.

custom continuous strand carbon fiber. I'll have to dig one out and measure diameter and pitch, but they weren't very big!
