I've got myself a pair of Century Jet Retracts (pneumatics) for my .60size P51. And I do have a couple of questions.

1.Ive pointed the "spring-knee" forward. Will that hamper the performance? I can see in other threads that people are pointing the "spring-knee" backwards (mostly).

2.I think I saw a post in here once about how to reduce the speed of the retract. Right now when I pump it up to 60psi, they slam into the gearbay with a devastating speed. Anyone know how to make them run "easier / smoother"? Like a reduction-ventile-system or something?

Status: offline 		robart makes a restrictor. it is a small piece of brass that has a very tiny hole so only a small amount of air can pass. it goes in line between the valve and the retract. one used for up and another for down. this will help dramatically. also, i have seen some people put a wheel collar on the outside of an airline and tighten the set screw. this pinches down the line and has the same effect. same thing, install between the valve and the retract. you will need 4 total for up and down. it is easy to try. good luck, barry

Status: offline 		Robart also makes a retract valve that has adjustments to slow the gear down.

Status: offline 		As far as the "spring Knee" pointing forward, scale for a P-51 is for this to point aft. P-47s on the other hand point forward. I have a pair of century jet retracts in my Top Flight 60 size P-47. They work well enough when maintained. They also are a little weak. I fly off of a grass runway and they will bend if my landing is a little less than perfect.

Status: offline 		If you are going to use the wheel collar method (I use a lot) the business end of the set screw is made to bit into the material in the wheel collar. If you look closely you will see the bottom of the set screw has a little cup in it. Dremel the cup ridges off and you will not get as many leaks there.

Status: offline 		Kawa , I have about 10 pairs of cj retracts , I use the Robart air controler on all my CJ gear as opposed to the CJ controller .
I never ever use air restictors because in essence its waisting air pressure , by useing the robart controller , you can easily adjust the air and the gear will retract in a very scale manner . Usually the entire support kit from tank , regulator , and lines can be purchased for under $40 bucks
