You are correct Bratch from what I have read the Diff has to be a full swap and the radio box is different.

The bevel gears inside the km diff are the same and the large outer gear/cog is the same and the large diff bearings are the same

The radi box is the same, just the steering servo braket is thicker on the clone, you can buy the steering servo brakets seperate from good sellers in australia not sure in the rest of the world you might have to buy the whole hpi radio box set and take the steering servo braket out and sell the rest on ebay.

Thanks Benckie

For the information great job in putting all the info together that is exactly what i wanted to Know. Now the only question for me is which one to buy. KM or Shengqi. I am thinking more of the KM b/c it has more history and i know what fits and what does not. If I am correct the KM engine is better then the extra $100 is worth the money and if i am correct you get stickers.
Once again thanks

I would go a km all they way, i know i sell km,s but only in australia but your in the usa and i still would say km.

And yes you get stickers.

I would also buy a hpi baja manual of ebay or atlest down load it of hpi.com so you will not have to ask all the simple question most guys have been asking on this thread.

I looked into the shenggi baja a while ago but they cost 105 usd more then the km baja if you buy direct and theres still the unknown factor about shenggi, and if you want a 29cc i would buy a gp290 head as they are better then a stock 29cc and cheap.

Once the shenggies are better known and come down in price a bit we will find out what they are like, as ive only seen a flogged out second hand one and the guy was having a lot of trouble.

As I have stated before, the KM diffs internals are different to HPI, including bevel gears, output shafts and outer case!
If you start putting more power into the KM car you are likely to blow the diff in that case replace with complete HPI SS alloy one.

The steering servo can be replaced with a Hitec HS-5745MG digital unit (best option) dont bother with a HPI unit they are rubbish even with metal gears!

I would say the ShengQi car is the same as KM that all parts from HPI Baja will fit.

I have been looking since last night for the KM Baja and i realized that the price for these have gone up. the cheapest i have seen was been on ebay between 510-525 + 134 shipping total 510+134= $644 I even got quoted from http://www.rccarsfactory.com/ kmmoto@hotmail.com from china (very very nice to deal with ) they wanted $680 shipped and on their email it stated " Quality Guarantee:Main parts: 2 years" ????. I have emailed KM and happy-Ellen with no response.

I was thinking, since i am going to eventually upgrade the KM with the H-tec servo $68, the hpi Differentials $90, Tuned pipe/xcan 85, Sway bars $45 = $932 total I can get the HPI Baja SS for $864.00 and you get a 26cc, better shocks, dog bones, 8000 RPM clutch spring, (note i already have a radio gear).

I did not compare to the Shengqi B/c IMO the KM is more of a clone from what i have read ans seen on pics. In all the shengqi seems to be good buy Last night one sold for 356+134= $490

For those who like Shengqi I contacted them they had a rep. contact me from Orlando Florida. They will be distributing the Shengqi from there. they wanted $700 since i was not a retailer and they wanted me to become one. VERY VERY VERY nice to deal with this is their information site http://www.wmw-group.com/ (note the rc cars are not on the website)

For what i want to do to my Baja in my case the HPI SS is for me (if the KM was cheaper like the Shenqi then i would have gone with the KM)
I HOPE THIS Information is usefully to others
Keep on bashing
JC

NOW I have to try to convince my girl friend/Fiance It Will be very hard. I got a gut feeling i will end up with the shenqi. I still will be happy. In all it will be big savings

I fired up the Shengqi tonight for the first time tonight (sorry no video):

I choked the car, pulled the pull start twice and it acted like it wanted to fire. I turned off the choke pulled it two more times and it came to nice with a nice even idle. I drove it around very slow to make sure I had the hang of it and then pulled full throttle...there was a huge bog then it took off at a pretty good clip.

I fiddled with it for about two hours and could not get that bog to go away. I am not sure how to fix this, it is right off idle and is worse under a load...does anyone have any ideas what it could be.

If I can get my video camera to take a charge I will try to take a video of it so you can hear the engine.

All in all I am very happy with the car, It did take some hits and tumbles with no trouble or broken parts, it is just that off idle bog.

Please help...

Thanks.

It has been going pretty well. I do have some updates. There seems to be a pretty common problem that the screws that hold the carb to the motor are a little two long. It seems that they will make an air leak and give you some problems. I shimmed the screws and the car was better to drive but still not 100% correct. Then someone suggested that I remove the stinger off the exhaust. By this one simple mod it has made a HUGE difference in how the car responds. It will burn rubber on takeoff now like crazy. I still have a slight problem on the top end, it just does not sound right, but that I think is just high speed needle setting, I only have about a tank and a half through it so far.

I have been pretty mean to the buggy, hit several trees and some endovers and so far no broken parts. It seems to be hanging in there very well and I am still happy with the purchace.

I still need to get some video of the car going.

I have been running rc cars for over 25 years, my first being a tamiya car. This is a very fun car to drive...I can now see what all the hype is about.

There is one bad thing about the car....you want to upgrade it, and nothing is cheap...I am now looking at other pipes for it. Very fun, so far very tough and pretty darn quick not that I got some bugs worked out.

Very happy so far with the car.
