Is the mesh ok? & by the looks of that it also looks like stones or debrie got up into the gears.

red man -> RE: grinding gears HELP. pic inside (3/21/2008 2:45:58 AM)

i replaced it and it happened again

gasdriverca -> RE: grinding gears HELP. pic inside (3/22/2008 3:58:25 PM)

sorry man you got me on that one....but by the looks of the picture it looks as if the gears are bottoming out on the road ,they look like they are rubbing on something. Don't think it would be the road because the gears are set up in the chassis to high....hhmmmm a tricky one!

The gears we're too far away from eachother. And when using the stock gear ratio (43 X 47) you should use a same color pinion gear ( yellow, purple or red) So you can stick with the stock trans gears but as you already found out. thats what happens if you change the gearing wrong.

You want to have the same number of teeth for the gears as so:

18-22 = 4
43-47 = 4 <<<< this is the stock gearing ( purple gears )

19-23 = 4
41-45 = 4 <<<< changed the pinion ( or clutch ) gears to red and changed the trans gears to 41 x 45

ok my gears on the clutch bell are 18 and ummm 24. and the 2 speed is 43 and 47.

red man -> RE: grinding gears HELP. pic inside (3/25/2008 4:31:07 AM)

also what would be the best combo for faster take off speed insted of top end speed. ???

iexion -> RE: grinding gears HELP. pic inside (3/25/2008 7:00:03 PM)

change the pinion gears to 18x22 or 17x21

The best match i'd say is the 18x22 because that will keep some top end speed and you keep the same take off speeds.

The reason why they kept stripping was the 2nd gear ( the 24 tooth ) was bigger then it need to be ( the ratio was also off ) and when you bolted the engine down one gear was align correctly and caused it to get worn down. Looking at the pic you can also tell this because the the gears teeth are also worn down.

So the best way to change gearing is to stick with the even number gearing

red man -> RE: grinding gears HELP. pic inside (3/26/2008 2:27:19 AM)

im sorry it is 18x22. i think this time when i strap down the engine on the mounts ima try to align it better and tighten it more secure.

iexion -> RE: grinding gears HELP. pic inside (3/26/2008 7:58:16 AM)

the best way to align the gears is to put a small piece of paper between them and then tighten the engine down. You want the gears to be close together but not TOO close because that will make it harder for them to move. The gap that the paper will leave is how much space that needs to be between the gears. If they are too far from each other, they will slip and ware down WAY faster then they should (as you have already found out) Good luck and keep at it. Once you get the hang of the car, you'll have a blast with it[:D]

i have 3 engines os 12 cv ummm Rfantom fr 15 and a 12r ss. which would b better. i was thinkking the fantom. a

Car-Boy -> RE: grinding gears HELP. pic inside (4/11/2008 2:19:34 AM)

I think you have your engine too far oway from the gears, try to move the engine closer to the gears. If you want to use smaller spur gears you can remove the small thin plastic part that sits under the gear box cover

NitroTherapist -> RE: grinding gears HELP. pic inside (5/5/2008 12:03:23 AM)

Make sure the engine it screwed on tight to the chassis. I strip most of my gears because the engine has become loose and wiggles when i brake/throttle.
