muck76 -> Sparc Rc bike (3/20/2008 4:11:36 AM)

I picked 2 of these up on ebay for 32 shipped to my door. Great fun for the kids! I want to make one faster though... they can not handle the grass due to low speeds and sloppy steering.

So my question is one, any BL motor suggestions (stock looks like a 380 can) 2 any way to get the collar off the axle shaft with out trashing it or if trashed do you have an idea of a new way to lock it?
I will attach a pic of the collar.
thanks

For a 380 size motor, I suggest a AMMO 28-35-5100. As far as the axle pin goes, you can probably drive it out with a nail set or punch. Then you can drill a hole in the collar and thread it and put a screw back in to hold the shaft when you put it back in. You may have to slightly ream out the collar to get the shaft to slide back n smoothly.

I'm looking at getting one. It is about the only decent dirt bike I can find online that doesn't cost a fortune.
How would you say it compares to the Ricky Carmichael Radio Shack dirt bike? Will it do jumps? Is it self righting?

the axle pin locking collar came off with a large pair of pliers. I may have to use a grub screw to keep it on. I did have to tap it back on with a hammer.

It does self right and runs better with the top heavy driver off. The suspension is too stiff, the steering is sloppy, and it is too slow to run on grass. If you get a running start from cement to grass, as long as it is smooth it does ok until it hits a bump and the steering goes off kilter.

With a more locked steering (servo based) that would help but it needs more speed than the stock will give for better off roading. Is it worth the 18 i paid on ebay new, yes. I bought 2. One for parts/experiment bike, the other for my kids to play with.

As far as comparison to Ricky, i have not had one but from vids i see of it, i think the ricky bike does better and has a bit of potential also. But parts are non existent for it where with the sparc they are cheap enough to buy more than one to solve that.

I have more info and pictures of this bike torn down on http://forums.thetoyz.com/index.php?showtopic=3673
