I'm need advice on the best way to seal the seams and trim on plastic film heatshrink coverings like MonoKote and UltraKote. On my last ARF, I used a clear automotive paint, but the trim is peeling and once oil gets in under the seams....forget it. I am starting a new ARF, and I don't want this to happen again. If you have found a way to solve this problem, I hope you'll share it with me.
Regards
JC

I know a lot of people use clear nail polish to seal seams. I use clearcoat spray can I get from the hobby shop. Works like a charm.

I tried the nail polish approach, but you end up having to do the entire plane this way and it ends up looking pretty bad.

You also do not get everything.

What has worked GREAT for me is Top Flight Clear Coat spray, which is specifically made for this purpose.

Clean the plane after assembling it.

Remove any clear plastic items.

Buff the covering lightly with a plastic dish cleaner or pad.

Then apply LIGHT coats of Top Flite to it, every 20 minutes.

2-4 coats will do but you can go nuts if you wish.

Let it dry for a day or more, the again buff lightly for a nice finish.

BTW: This is the forum for planes sold by www.nitroplanes.com.

You may want to post in the general ARF forum instead.

opjose,
Thanks for the info. I'll see if I can find this at Hobbytown.
Think I'll spray it before assembly so I won't have fingerprints all over it.
