Status: offline 		Hi Mike, What plug are you using? The recommended glow plug for the TJT-3000 is a Rossi #5 plug, the suggested setting is 17-25 on our FADEC ECU. You can still use other plugs successfully, although for best results we have found longer plug life results using the Rossi #5.
Before plug installation in your turbine, I find preheating the plug element via glow heat first can also help temper the element, this also makes the plug element less likely to brake while removing/adjusting plug coils into exposed position. I use a tooth pick to adjust/pry plug coils...

Is the Rossi #5 recommended for the TEMS ECU as well? I use an O.S. #8 on my FADEC TJT with no problems whatsoever and I'm planning to use the same on the TEMS controlled engine. Any advice?

Status: offline 		G'day Chris, re- plugs the Rossi #5, #8 and O.S.A3 plugs have all worked well with either the TEMS or FADEC ECU's these plugs have proven to offer the longest life span/run cycles. I have seen many different brand plugs used quite successfully (only non-idle bar) Its more a question of durability and the above mentioned plugs seemed to have worked best for us so far of all the plug types tried with the TJT turbines to date. FYI- Recommended plug voltage is between 2.0 - 2.2 volt.

I personally find I would go through maybe two, or three plugs (Rossi #5) a season with my regular weekend/Sunday ROO/TJT3000 sport flying thats well over sixty flights, so I would be getting at least 20+ flights with each Rossi #5...
I have not actually kept count of starts on each plug, but this season I will start to keep an accurate log of plug duration/life/start cycles and update TJT customers and reps as plug testing results develop...

I have had about thirty starts on the TEMS without a single failure on the plug, which is still the one that came with the engine. It looks as if it will stay there for a long time.

Status: offline 		Just replaced my plug yesterday with the only thing I had available a Fox standard short, and also turned the voltage down a bit. It lit off immediately... Don't know how long it will last...

I guess the good thing about turbines is that if the plug does fail, at least the airplane is safely on the ground...

Re- Fox plug, This is a good example that many different plugs can and will work! Although If you take notice of the Fox glowplugs element you will notice that when compared to the Rossi glowplug, the Rossi's wire plug element is of a thicker gage wire, this tends to be the reason why Rossi's give longer life when used exclusively to light off a turbine and also can handle the higher glow voltage often used as well.

Wayne if possible please keep a record of start numbers and keep us informed as to the duration you get from the Fox plug on your TJT-3000. I am curious to see what sort of lifespan the various plugs yield...

Do you know if the TEMS puts out enough voltage to power a 2 volt plug? I have about 2 dozen of these........

Status: offline 		Wayne, Re- plugs 2.0- 2.1 volts is the recommended plug voltage for the TEMS ecu, so 2.0 volt glow plugs should be fine! The only question mark might be plug longevity with the Fox 2.0 volt plugs? keep us posted....

WE have 23 flights on the Fox plug so far. I dont have the exact start and run time numbers with me at the moment, but there are over 3 hrs on the engine, most of that on the Fox plug.

I guess I should pull it out and check it soon.......

Status: offline 		For mainly our Australian customers, we have found the Aussie made Taipan (cool long reach) plugs seem to have good life expectency as well...

Status: offline 		Nony- Thanks for the input... Re-Fox plug. Can you please let us know exactly which Fox plug type you used for your 29 successful TJT-3000 starts? You mentioned Fox short! previously? Although not one of the TJT recommended plugs for the TJT-3000 Eagle, the Fox glow plug and many other brand plugs seem to work just fine but with a shorter life expectancy than the TJT factory recommended glow plugs previously mentioned.
