Racers Edge Surefire .32
ok this one has a pullstart on it....any thoughts? I am buying a new engine for the Savvy and this is one of my options.

deanR -> RE: Surefire .32 (3/21/2008 1:21:57 AM)

Does anybody else see an Axial 32 or a variant of the Hpi 4.6 here? The Sure Fire and the Axial 32 have been reported to be the same engine. They sure look the same to me, only my Axial 32 engines have green heads. [:D] They were cheaper that way. The same three needle carb, the same block fins, same head design, the Axial 28 and its twin sister the Hpi 4.6..... now you have the Axial 32's twin, the Sure Fire 32. BB

SportsFans -> RE: Surefire .32 (3/21/2008 3:31:16 AM)

Yes it's the same engine as the Axial .32 indentical, but Sure Fire has a another variant of this engine named Sure Fire .32R, and it's supposed to perform even better than the Sure Fire .32 and the Axial .32. http://www.racers-edge.com/store/customer/product.php?productid=24891&cat=520&page=1

BudBud -> RE: Surefire .32 (3/21/2008 3:53:17 AM)

It would have to be a huge increase in power to justify that additional coinage! I have two Axial 32s... one has been super, the other came with a leaky front bearing. We do not have to search very far to find guys with Axials and Hpi 4.6s that have leaky bearings. Not knocking them, I think it is a great engine for the money. Grab yourself one and report back to us! Save me some money....

LRP 28 or Picco P3 28, if you are a Tower member, free shipping and 30 or 40 bucks off once a month makes that Picco look pretty good at 159 or 169.... Understand though, you will need a pipe and header for the Picco, the Savage pipe does not do them justice. BB

Poor choice of words I'd say. You can say that the crank case is certainly identical, but not much beyond that. They are manufactured in the same plant as I understand, but you are correct that the 32R has a different setup. That's simply a more extensively ported sleeve and different piston.

How do I know this? I own a SureFire 32R ported by Rick Brake. Now I can say it's an absolute BRUTE that can also make some great top-end power. Now with the RBMods porting...holy friggin' moly!!

And BTW it was $150 for the SureFire. I wouldn't complain too much about that being a high price for goodness sake. [:D]

I'll have more info for you guys after several more tanks of break-in.

I'll be running a Tsais header and Dynamite 053 pipe.

Sorry man I didn't mean to sound like a butt. I get picky about wording sometimes.......the Axial .32 and SureFire .32 aren't quite identical. They're made in the same plant as I have read and have the same crank case...maybe even the same carb. or crank. But there are variations to these pieces that make them pretty different.

The 32R is a completely different animal, but only difference being sleeve/piston.

My bad... [;)][:D]

SportsFans -> RE: Surefire .32 (3/21/2008 4:23:11 AM)

Np, ok thanks for the expansion.

RCCanuck -> RE: Surefire .32 (3/21/2008 11:14:29 AM)

thanks guys...thats what I was looking for.....I have a chance to buy a new surefire .32 for 150 cash from a fellow RC'er in my neck of the woods...if it doesn't go through I will be looking at the picco a little closer although I wanna try and get away without having to buy a pipe and header...it is just a basher truck.

Axial 32 and Surefire 32 are 100% identical !!!! I have timed and modified both motors.... the 32R is just a touched up version....... I have seen pics of the 32R but i have not been able to time one yet......

I could have sent you my stocker had I known...it's been RB modded now so no luck on that. [:D]

No wonder the dyno curves look so close. Thanks for that info man.

ok all as a proud owner of a racers edge surefire .32 im getting ready to replace the piston and sleeve and i have looked at several options the axial .32 piston and sleeve looks to be a direct fit as i cannot locate the racers edge R version nor the stock piston and sleeve any info from any one that has had these modded or where to get the piston and sleeve modded would be greatly appreciated also does anyone have any idea where to find the original manual for the resf .32 ?

You can either get the stock piston/sleeve for ~$50 or the 32R piston/sleeve for ~$100...directly from Racers' Edge.

The manual is also at the Racers' Edge website.

If you want it modded send it to Rick Brake at RB Mods.

RCCanuck -> RE: Surefire .32 (3/27/2008 9:27:43 PM)

well looks like this is the engine for my Savage...as for the 4.6HO the case and head are in great condition still I will eventually rebuild it with a new piston/sleeve, bearing and connecting rod but that will be a next winter project....I have always run 20% in all my trucks...Should I consider running 30% through this Surefire .32? I will be running a stock header and the Hot bodies shiny tuned pipe...I can't wait to get this beast--break it down--seal it all up..get it broken in and ripping up the fresh spring turf,dirt at my local bash spot...[:D]

Use whatever fuel is easiest for you to purchase! [:D] You'll need to use different glow plugs with the different fuel, and re-tune, but beyond that you can use either. Colder glow plug with the higher nitro content.

Man that reminds me...I need a gallon of fuel! [:'(]

It will not take you very long to be looking for a larger clutch bell or smaller spur gear, you will love the low end power. They will crank out some pretty decent rpm, but the real beauty of the beast happens before it starts screaming. [:D] A good choice for a Savage that you plan to play hard with. BB

I'm running 18/47 and doubt it will be low enough..[X(]

I've already prepared my drivetrain for the brutal attack that is coming. Aluminum clutch shoes with soft springs, (2) set screws per clutch shoe, 4-gear diffs with alloy cups and 7000wgt diff oil. Heavy duty drive cups and all that nonsense. [:D] The slipper is tightened all the way and Loctited. I'm ready!

BudBud -> RE: Surefire .32 (3/27/2008 10:11:47 PM)

Surely you have plenty of power with that bell/spur combo! I cannot keep my front tires down accelerating hard from lower rpm with a 18/47 running the stock Hpi treaded tires. It just rips them up, stands on its tail and blows the tires up like frisbies if I stay in it. I am going to try a 19 or 20 bell and a 46 spur is next the other way. I have successfully destroyed the wheelie bar caster behind mine, it looked more like a cowboy boot spur than a wheel, it was ground down to the spokes. I do have the Hpi bar with the bearings instead of bushings in the caster. I replaced the caster with the smaller one because I had it. I do not like the smaller wheel as the truck flips over the top of it too easy. BB

go-to -> RE: Surefire .32 (3/27/2008 10:31:24 PM)

You gotta remember mine is modded by Rick Brake buddy! [X(]

BudBud -> RE: Surefire .32 (3/27/2008 10:52:01 PM)

Have you run yours yet? I am curious how the mods affect it. Mine is an Axial 32, but it has been through a lot of fuel. I plan to just keep running it until the compression gets so bad it will not start or something breaks. Maybe I should send off a new one for Rick to do magic on. Lately I have been running the Piccos most of the time, mainly because I had been working on those two trucks. That is the way it works when you have too many, you generally drive the one you worked on last. I will get them all up and running, then the boys will come and find a weak link. [8D][8D] Kind of nice to have them around. [8D][8D] The boys, not the weak links... [:D] BB
